Peel's in general lack of public communication skills
I suspect it's more about intentions than skills

Their intentions are fine, not that anyone will believe it, I didn't for a long time but it's the truth

Their intentions may be fine, but they are taking a long time coming to fruition and most of the publicity they do generate is negative (pension fund etc)

Just back from three weeks holiday hence a rather belated post to the fantastic news that Skydive St George and their horrible plane have moved on. We do feel pity for the good folk around Shotton and Peterlee trying to enjoy pleasant outdoor time if and when G-SCOL pounds the skies of their neighbourhood,
Yippee !!. Now then, lets get some more real aviation activities at the "Airport".

Such a bizarre post. The airport's only hope for staying open is to develop a wide and diverse community of GA. They have some fantastic facilities, and PTT not requiring a membership when you are learning PPL is the kind of thinking that is required. The runway and taxiways are still top notch as is the ILS. I don't know quite what "Aviation Activities" you are looking for but skydive is one of them, and it's loss shouldn't be celebrated.

I'm sorry, but skydiving is so incompatible with any other activity it should never have been at the airport to start with. It was a very large square peg trying to fit into a very small round hole.
Anyone with any form of aviation knowledge would know that a skydiving operation would never work at an airport with any form of other activity, let alone jet traffic and scheduled services. This is why most operate from their own airfields with very little else going on.
It was doomed to fail from the outset.

Back to P330s question, there has been a release about a new distribution centre and hangars for aero sports companies. Downside from the parachutes the girlies have gone

The point is they tried and both Skydive and the airport deserve credit for that

It may indeed seem a bizarre post to anyone who was not directly affected by the awful mind numbing racket caused by Skydive St George as their aircraft climbed at high power settings in "our" overhead. Also as Toadpool says sky diving is a totally incompatable activity and was an ill concieved venture carried out over an International Airport. Just imagine this scenairo. "Durham Approach, Bandit 31, Hawk Aircraft 15 miles north east with suspected birdstrike, request immediate vectors to runway 23." Bandit 31, Durham Radar, sorry mate we have six parachute jumpers somewhere in the overhead, can you make it to Leeming" !!

Well I for one slated the place when they turned up along with the so called Microlight men... so I'm over the moon they've now gone.. but shocking that an "international" Airport would want them here in the first place... I'm sure Newcastle and Leeds airport management must have been bad laughing... but we are dealing with peel, who no doubt see them as a step in the right direction... which if I'm honest, was another shocker from the long list of unbelievable decisions that this so called management have done over the last several years! so how RR can say they deserve credit... another CO here me thinks....

Which is the point that was made when the housing was announced and again when the Skydivers moved in...

The link about the distribution centre dates back to the link road announcement - has this been given permission yet?

Mike Tee...they left as much for financial reasons as they did because of the growing airport traffic, therefore the argument could be made that they did in fact prove that skydiving and commercial aviation can work together. The Hawk you mention in your scenario would have got in, you're very naive if you think there wasn't procedures in place to deal with such a scenario. And as for the noise comment, as loud as the Airvan may be, I will resign from the airport to become a binman before that thing adversely affects anyone's quality of life...people love to complain that's the real problem.

And what about the significant amount of pissed offness caused by careless skydivers crashing through your greenhouse.

Anyone thinking parachuting is incompatible with other "normal" activities at an airfield should take a trip to Dunkeswell. All done on air-to-ground and with absolutely no restrictions on aircraft movements while parachutists are in the air. Absolutely gob-smacking when you first encounter it, and bizarre that it can possibly be allowed, but it is, and it obviously works because it's been going on for years.
But yes, Skydive's attempt at DTV was surely misguided in the first place - two parachute outfits within 20 miles of each other?

Simplythebeast, please explain your comment, there were no incidents with any parachute activity at DTVA.

Dear Robert -Ryan, my scenario, as you probably well know is just a made up description of a possible event, But to boldy say that the Hawk would have "got in" is indeed presumptive in the extreme.
As for your second comments surely you must be aware that all reasonable people have different levels of noise tolerance so to judge others by your own is indeed selfish and un-neighbourly.
And not all people love to complain. Many suffer in silence through the selfish and un-thoughtful actions of others.
Many of our neighbours dreaded the fine summer days when they could not enjoy their outdoor space because that noisy aircraft.
Thank goodness it's gone and does not return.

RR interesting response..pray tell me how ATC would have handled that scenario..paras just jumped...12000 feet. Hawk calls emergency. 15 ne of airport for straight in.
Ermm. Can you para guys hang around for 10 mins please while this guy lands."I think not.
Luckily as stated it never happened..but for the grace of god.

A developing major player airport does not need this type of business.
