DURHAM TEES VALLEY AIRPORT - 6
departure of Police helicopter
Maybe not all bad news? No noise for the new housing to contend with?
Downside is loss of rental which must be quite substantial.
Effect on movements...not real important?
Another aviation activity gone however.

DTVA have set up a survey aimed at local business travellers.
Quoted from DTVA facebook page:
"‘HELP US MEET YOUR NEEDS’
AIRPORT URGES BUSINESS
As Durham Tees Valley Airport moves forward in its drive to maintain—and develop—services for the region’s business community it is seeking the views on those who matter most…local companies and their key decision makers.
Today the airport is launching a major Business Travel Survey which is seeking views on a wide range of factors aimed at gaining a better understanding of how the airport can help to meet business needs.
As well as asking survey respondents to indicate their preferred airports, the survey is seeking views on the key factors affecting the choice of air service, views on existing services and ways in which the passenger experience could be improved, together with information on key destinations which are important to local firms.
Says Head of Aviation Development Chris Harcombe “We are really asking the local business community to work with us in taking forward the objectives in the Master Plan to provide the air services which can support our local economy and companies.
“One of the key ways in which they can help is in providing the information which we need to demonstrate business demands in our discussions with both new and existing airlines. They want as much information as possible when considering which services to operate and this survey can make a major contribution in ensuring we can make a strong case for Durham Tees Valley.”
The survey is available via the home page of the airport’s recently launched new website www.durhamteesvalleyairport.com. The survey takes around five minutes to complete and all responses will be treated in the strictest confidence."
Also noticed somebody has started a campaign with a view of trying to save the NPAS chopper:

Surprised that Beefer hasn't picked up that Peel/DTVA and their approach to Wind Turbines has made it into the latest Private Eye...

Offices in the terminal? Not sure if that is positive.
Quote from Wikipedia about The fate of Sheffield City Airport
"In the end the last scheduled airline pulled out in 2002, after the airport had passed into the hands of Peel Airports, who were shortly to be opening Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield airport, approximately 25 miles away. By the time the last scheduled service was flown, the terminal interior had been converted to office accommodation. Fire and rescue cover and air traffic control staffing levels were both reduced and published procedures for instrument approaches were withdrawn, rendering the airport unattractive to the current generation of airlines which offer low-cost services with turboprop aircraft.

Positive as in:
Exactly what they should be doing, so long as it isn't at the expense of the airline services. But how much terminal space does the current throughput need, and presumably also space available from Peel's centralising of supporting functions - could argue why has it taken them so long?
DTVA’s Managing Director Steve Gill commented: “Key to the Master Plan for the airport is maximising the potential of the whole site to generate new revenue streams in order to support continuing air services.
Fool speaking!
sorry cautious optimist..can we have a little bit of your optimism translated into hard facts?
Facts are ,the core ideas and company visions are still on dodgy ground?
Two operators only.Klm figures down last month,Eastern Aberdeen service reduced by 25% and if the doom from Aberdeen thread is anything to go by..that will only continue downward.
Airport passengers on course for a low not seen since early 1970s
MOD flights gone.
Movements way down!
Police helicopter gone. Along with rental.Cobhams flight inspectorate gone..although we seem to have more flights than ever at mo.!
Sycamore business non existent .
But wait ,we have a parachute aircraft and a micro light school..oh and a couple of new office tenants!
No sign of the housing master plan commencing.
Sorry as I said earlier could you please provide this"fool" with some cautious optimism please?

Two operators only.Klm figures down last month,Eastern Aberdeen service reduced by 25% and if the doom from Aberdeen thread is anything to go by..that will only continue downward. KLM down marginally and the load factors continue to be the highest in years, Aberdeen nobodies fault, the route is dictated by the oil industry and is out of the airports and the airlines hands
Airport passengers on course for a low not seen since early 1970s as far as this year is concerned far too early to tell
MOD flights gone. Again, not the airports fault, aren't we out of Afghan now?? Certainly NCL haven't taken any either and last I heard the airport had found a way to accomodate such flights in line with the new business model
Movements way down! That will change this year
Police helicopter gone. Although very likely yes, it is not set in stone just yet, I don't think they anticipated the backlash, again, not the airports fault Along with rental.Cobhams flight inspectorate gone..although we seem to have more flights than ever at mo.! Exactly! And as a non-based operator they'll pay higher for landing and parking fees!
Sycamore business non existent . Reserving judgement for now but yes I'll give you that one
But wait ,we have a parachute aircraft and a micro light school..oh and a couple of new office tenants! Why is this a criticism?? Five new air operators and a marked increase in resident aircraft as well as a GA/BA marketing drive/incentives is more positive activity in six months than there has been in six years!
No sign of the housing master plan commencing. Has always been a Spring 15 start, if this remains the case come May/June then start to doubt it

Well without getting involved with all this "handbags at 10 paces" stuff, then all a traveller has to form any opinion on is that if one looks at the airport arrivals & departures currently, then at this time if it doesn't start with an "A" then there is no direct flight !
To be fair & objective then a review of the DTVA website does reflect that there are more than 200+ destinations that one can fly to, albeit virtually all through the KLM AMS hub. But then you could actually point out that it's only 100 short of the number mooted on a certain website at an airport "up the road".
This is of course taken somewhat light heartedly, specifically on limited choice and the fact that the option and facility for holiday travel, particularly the bucket & spade market has been actively discouraged.
It is this point more than any other, be it regarding the grand plan or what ever that makes me extremely cynical.
Picking arguments as to the remaining remnants of what was once a promising regional airport, is actually getting nowhere & without new information is just going over the same ground again & again

cautious optimism ?
Thanks for the cautious optimism ,cautious optimism..not a lot of meat on the bone but at least it's cautious optimism from someone.
Towards the middle of March now so let's review in 3 months time and see where we are then?

Don't get me wrong, I do realise the situation is far from ideal, as does Peel, but I just wish people could see the fact that they are clearly making an effort and skyman771 it still is a promising regional airport.
Bradsim - there are plenty more but they have the good sense to keep schtum - I'm weak in that respect!!

Peel boys
Sounds like Peel are adding their own views to pprune these days.
The staff moral is very low according to people who work at DTV.
It appears that most people are waiting for the house foundations to go in an wait for their redundancy notices. Not much out there to jump ship to in the airport market.
As a poster on the Doncaster thread has recently pointed out, Sheffield went the same way with the office accommodation when Peel came onboard.

Note how the new roads were funded by someone other than Peel again.
I'm also optimistic, but do wonder what will happen to the airport when the houses go up this year?

Beafer, Peel wouldn't lower themselves to posting on somewhere like this. That being said I can see why I might sound like them, but I will continue to support them until they give me reason not to, i.e. when the airport is in any kind of danger of closing.
Staff morale was very low a couple of years back, and whilst there is still a way to go it's currently the highest it's been in quite some time.
Sheffield City has been discussed to death, it closed because it was an unsafe and unviable airport. People use Sheffield as an example to show that Peel like to close airports but don't forget they built a mostly brand new one as well.
