Sheffield City was closed because it was dangerous, that's why the airlines pulled out of there, Brymon Airways admitted as much.

Having done a quick Google search, the airlines pulled out due to a lack of radar facilities, so I was slightly off.

Can we get back to DTV now please before the mods step in again...

I think DTVairport is referring to the fact that Sheffield City was outside controlled airspace and the operational procedures of a number of airlines means they are reluctant to use such airports.

KLM seemed happy to use it for a number of years. If it was dangerous, the CAA wouldn't have licensed it.

Anybody whose prepared to take a position and then says
I don’t have any evidence to suggest that and I haven’t researched this matter thoroughly
would get my vote...

Too Shy

Yes well this cocunut has raised Hundreds of thousands of pounds for the needy of this area. More than can be said for the Regional Growth fund. 1000 jobs my a**e.
All this funding codswallop goes to those who already have it and is simply a smokescreen for the billions central government spend on Londons further development, and so it will continue as long as we have buffoons pandering to local MPs and councillors, most of whom couldn't spell Bob backwards, who keep releasing unsubstantiated headlines.
When the cocunut does make office maybe then we will see the bulls**t flushed out about why our airport was sold down the river..

What a load of cr*p.

Who gives a monkey's about the 2003 takeover anyway, the fact is, we still have an airport and that is not going to change anytime soon, had the takeover not have happened, we would have closed years ago.

I ended up in MME Friday night mainly due to KLM fare to NCL being another £500!!! However due to NATS radar failing we were two hours late! Only two immigration staff, one for non EU one for EU, long cue! My lift could not wait so I walked out looking for a taxi!!? No taxi in sight and after ringing the number on on the sign I had to wait 20min in below zero temps for a taxi to arrive, he complained all the way to Sunderland about being called back out!

I felt left in the middle of no-where without paddle!!! I will not be back!!

PS KLM Cityhopper staff where great....

Well 10 DME ARC sounds like you should of stayed in Dubai for Christmas, you cannot blame DTVA for your flight predicaments and how many people can really be in a que from a Fokker 70.

Car parking is free for 5 hours so you should have a whine at the person picking you up. The taxi's stop at the front door so there would be no need to stand outside, quite sure you could see it coming!

Suppose anyone would complain having to go to Sunderland!

What was the terminal arrivals area like any better? And you enjoyed the flight, so apart from the little wait at immigration you have no other reason why not to come back to DTVA, unless you want to pay £500 pounds more.

Well the FK70 was full and a BMR E135 had off loaded before us. As for a taxi he didn't come to the front door and I certainly did not want to miss my taxi as around 20 other people were ringing and looking for a taxi as well! You cannot blame my lift having to dump me as you have free car parking??? She just had a life to lead which unfortunately did not include hanging round at MME!
My biggest gripe is that some of the basic services of an airport like taxi's! I was the first to ring and they really did not want to send any one back to the airport! I found out from the driver that they had been sent home!
So yes I saved some money but if I ever find my self with this option again I won't look to MME I would just wait a little longer and get next NCL flight!

The BMR brought West Ham up from London so no immigration clearance needed there, they possibly went straight from the ramp to a coach.

The taxi complaint sounds a valid point something to be sorted out with the airport!

Good thing from this post is its interesting to see DTVA is cheaper from Amsterdam and presumably Dubai, £500 pounds cheaper!! than Newcastle even with a full aircraft.

Although perhaps a little brash, N707ZS raised some valid points, the only thing DTVA can really be blamed for is the lengthy cue at immigration, and even then there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Does the airport even have influence over the taxi's?? Surely it's up to the taxi operators to notice the demand is there?

It's also worth noting that you get people on here raving about what a good experience they had. Can't win them all.

KLM

We haven't had a Sunday evening service for a couple of years now, then they brought it back at the start of the winter schedules but it was always only for a few weeks, ending around about now.

There was widespread rumour that the KLM contract was up for renewal during November, given that November has now passed perhaps we should rejoice?
