Picky..but G Apron is only 3 stands I think?
Also medevac based aircraft can operate without ATC,is that where the 24 hr staffing comes in so they can put the lights on?
Newcastle will need more apron space for 2019 when the Rugby European finals are held there...of course they could always operate from here!!!!!

SWBKCB I meant other airports might look and think 'it's worked for them it can work for us', I already get the impression Blackpool are taking inspiration from us...although they couldn't simply ask Jet2 to leave like Peel did Thomson, they had to go into administration to void the contract!

Not sure why we're discussing NCL on here, but if G apron is where the Royal Mail and freight flights parked, then Ryanair wanted to base three aircraft recently but NCL told them no chance were they going to bus passengers across the runway, they then requested Newcastle build them a low cost terminal (!), to which they got told an even bigger no chance as they want all pax going through the duty free section in the main terminal...which kind of comes nicely back to the point in my previous post

Question at the end of the day, is there any money to be made from these flights?

If the pax were charged the real price as R R says, or willing to pay the real price instead of a cheapy, then the airport has to try and make money on hotels, shops and car park. Previous DTV managers erected a large fence to maximise the pax car park money as they weren't making much back then.

Is it just coincidence that Eastern Airways have just started to offer £80 one way flights to Aberdeen? Not expecting competition are they?

So if Ncl are being so arsy with Ryanair why haven't DTV jumped in and offered a better product and solution?
DTV have got a low cost terminal!!!!!! Surely that's the way forward or am I missing something?

Low cost or no cost if income isn't greater than expenditure it won't work in any industry.

Given the reduced parking that MME will have once the houses are built, what level of airline ops could the terminal support without having to introduce remote parking and shuttle buses?

Hello Robert R

You arguments and comments are sound.

I think you will have more success nailing jelly to the ceiling than convincing the crowd that MME will never again be a player in the real airline world. Seeing they live on planet MME I am supprised they are not discussing when the first space ship will dock.

Maybe the sound of turboprops will become more common within the future, just look at another airport in the Peel group... maybe the members of FoDTVA know more about this as they seem the most knowledgeable these days as they are experts in the field.

Good luck with getting that approved in a residential area!

So even getting a domestic flight to Lhr would not help, no revenue from duty free there.

I don't think this crowd funding idea will stop the houses.
Durham Tees Valley: £100k crowdfunding campaign to block 350 home plan at Teesside's airport - Gazette Live

If Peels contractor offers a part exchange deal I might be interested in buying one for a better view.
I'm surprised Peel haven't put in an application to build houses on the south side as that would be a better location.
How much money are Peel expecting to put into the airport from the houses?

If they keep their promise...and I think expectation is too high for them not to (they'd be crucified)...then £25-30 million

I agree, but they would still need to complete with Virgin East Coast Trains. I have read that Darlington would be the first stop on some of the new services, just over two hours from London. Like others I believe that bucket and spade, cruise and winter sky flights are the way forward.

So please explain why 10000+ a month went to LHR even when the trains took the same time as today!

Re the housing and the £25-30 million. Is this the cash they promised when they bought into MME? I think the £25-30 million is optimistic. These houses are going to have to be in the region of £200k minimum for the figures to match up! Not really the affordable housing councils (especially labour) are after.
Bill Dixon and the other councillors how much did you receive in those brown envelope?

Trains ok on paper but stop start, people shuffling around every stop, no seats and then all stop when there's an unfortunate suicide on the tracks!

For onward connections LHR is the best, however centre to centre the trains are better, fog is not a problem with them either. The question is, what is bread and butter for MME?
