Another question that gets asked again and again...

As far as I am aware planning permission hasn't been granted - I've also always been dubious about the housing being built so near to the terminal, but hadn't realised how close that newish development near the approach road was (Oak Tree close/The Crescent) - when where they built?

Airports go for 1 these days, so taking that into consideration I'd say Peel paid a fortune!
Apples & Pears - in isolation this has no relevance whatsoever.

As to Peels master plan, what gives this credibility?, & even if it does stand up to scrutiny then there's no guarantee that in being "selective" then Peel will be able to deliver a completely different agenda.
In having complete control over events as already seen i.e. volume of traffic at DTV, then there is scope for Peel to deliver virtually any scenario "within the master plan".
And you go on about conspiracy theorists, Peel themselves are the ones creating an environment for them to thrive !
At the end of the day irrespective as to the price paid, it is under written many times over, by the value of the land acquired that's fact !

Skyman: Hear Hear and well said!

DTVA will be what determines its future by Peel and their interests only.

Now is the time to move on... Stop wasting money on backing a lost cause to re-create an Airport which is lost. All legal challenges should be made against Peel and maximum opposition to planned alternative use of the land.

Councils should now maximise the potential of a large successful airport in Newcastle with FAST & Comfortable transport by rail & coach from Tees Valley area, with a targeted maximum journey time of 50 mins from Teeside catchment area (Same as Central London to Heathrow via Tube) & maximum public fares set at a 7 zone ticket.

Only then will the Whole North East Region be effective as Greater Manchester and attract the routes and inward investment as laid out by Lord Adonis in his recent report.

More manure from VentureGO, why do you bring the same subject up every 12 months. 28th Oct 2013 same old question.

VentureGo - what a load of bks.

Peel are a powerhouse and have far too much muscle for anyone to stand in their way - no matter how hard myself and many others would try - if they ever tried to close the airport, so do you think they would give half a toss what people would think of them as a result?? Therefore, they could have shut the place down five minutes after they originally purchased it in 2003 or claimed there were no interested parties and shut the place when it was placed up for sale two years ago. If they want to close the place, they're missing some easy opportunities to do so.

For all I know there may well be a hidden agenda, but I can say with some certainty that at this time of writing it does not involve the closure of the airport. At a push the terminal might one day close, but still very unlikely.

I'd like to see you or many others on here do a better job.

And there you go off on another one !. The Peel organisation are UK Companies in one form or another and are subject to UK regularity controls. In their operations then they are subject to the same UK law as everyone else. Their size & influence is also monitored at many levels, from local through to national level and they carry a large amount of corporate responsibility. No doubt they would like to stamp on all in their path as you suggest, fortunately the world (at least in the UK) is not like that.
It is likely that it is the ABOVE that is relevant and it thus your comment,
so do you think they would give half a toss what people would think of them as a result??
that is,"in your words" actually:-
a load of bks.

Unfortunately it appears inevitable that it is only a matter of time until the "Airport", becomes an "Airfield", perhaps then a time to reinvent yourself and your opinions?

Not even slightly convinced, seems to me you're trying to pick apart my argument for the sake of it

Speaking to one of the chaps at Sycamore just the other day, best thing that could have happened - as one door closes...

Sorry to hear the news, not good seeing people lose their jobs. Hopefully they can get something quickly.

I think there are three problems with that:
1. "They"
2. "get something" and
3. "quickly"

I always thought an airline or lessor would say "we want the engines back, you get the rest", but I now believe this to be inaccurate.

Or was the Peel hangar too expensive and they decided to cut their losses?
Trying to cause trouble again? I know Sycamore have a good enough if not very good deal with Peel.

It is more lucrative for the scrapping company to purchase the airframe from the airline/leasing company rather than act for the owner.

Unless people can stop making wrong turns and spouting pure conjecture this thread will disappear.

It is stupid and unhelpful to make comments that are devoid of fact and made up from puerile imagination. This is the third time this thread has run off the rails.

Get it back now or it will go!

Also, if you do not have the ability to comment sensibly then please do not comment at all.

Now there's a challenge !
I used to be a regular contributor to this place and I still pop in now and again. I have revised the last 10 pages and see what I saw two years ago but I do not see anything which resembles the threats from the moderator.
Butt out and let it take it's course. I remember similar threats some 8 years ago about free speech and it must be annoying that people can speak freely about their passion to people who do not feel the same .
Look at the numbers of visits and contributions and look at the advertising revenue and make a decision Mods.
I await suspension with bated breath

paarmo - the moderator removed the offending posts, as you say you didn't see them, if you had, you'd realise he did the correct thing, some of the posts were a joke to say the least and completely and utterly off topic in some cases.
