Hey Ho, I presume it was convenient to somebody to do that.

But they also have new notices up there, grimly stating that anyone approaching the security x-ray who has the effrontery to have not put their liquids in the bags will be Delayed By 15 Minutes. Just whatever sort of organisation do they think they are running ? A military boot camp ?
In all fairness anyone these days who doesn't know the liquid rules deserves to be delayed by 15 minutes, especially as it also delays people behind them. who are adhering. You can't have it two ways, that long wait you experience was almost definitely down to too many people having liquids in their bags and requiring a second screening, which causes trays to mount up. If you want more of that then by all means be soft on people who ignore all the warning signs, but if you want a free flowing security lane then it needs to be harshly enforced, as it is in airports the world over. I really don't see how anyone, frequent flyer or not, English speaking or not, can be ignorant about the security rules which have been in place now for over a decade in most of the world. Even before you get to the xray machine there are signs at check in level and before you pass through the gates there are about a dozen tables to repack, each one with the rules displayed nearby.

Traffic data for Edinburgh Glasgow and Aberdeen were released today to the media, but as often happens, EDI failed to post it to their own website!

Just curious. What's the reason for the Jet2 flight Cologne this evening? Usually these odd ones are sport-related, but I'm stuck with this one.

Major expansion at EDI over the next 2-3 years apparently including much more terminal space and around 20 new stands! As reported elsewhere but not official yet.

Where is it being reported? Great news if it happens, airport is in desperate need of more space.

This seems to be the only master plan on EDI webpage for 5 new stands by 2021. This was 2016 and I thought any plan for 20 new stands would have to be in the public domain for planning consent?

Not announced yet but the major development will be brought forward apparently. So what is shown for 2040 may be happening much sooner than the masterplan suggests.

Just because it doesn't suit your agenda don't rubbish it. It was posted by a respected member who happens to work at EDI.

If indeed it is true, it's fantastic news that serious investment is being made.

They launched a consultation last November on a Masterplan through to 2040. This included closing the cross runway and extending the terminal across it. There's a link from a press release on the media pages in November

tp://www.edinburghairport.com/about-us/airport-expansion

Is your information more recent? After all the consultation period would have ended at the start of the year.

Can closing the second runway and converting EDI from a two runway airport to a single runway really be a good idea?

A simple tyre burst can (and does) shut the entire airport down for an hour or more, causing a chain reaction of chaos which lasts for the rest of the day.

This appears to be a recent development i.e. subsequent to the publication of the Masterplan. I have no idea what has happened to get them to conclude that they should push on with a major expansion straight away but it looks as though that is what is going to happen.

The information came from a respected poster so in my humble opinion there is no reason to doubt it.

With regards to closing the second runway and operating with one causing issues, it doesnt seem to bother Gatwick who operate with a single runway and many more aircraft movements day-in, day-out.

We have been saying for years that EDI needs some proper investment to not only take care of its current needs but provide robust infrastructure for the future and it looks as though GIP think the same.

Gatwick has a second runway for when the main runway is closed. They just can't be used together.

Thanks for that. Maybe the consultation was real, and they have produced an updated version, with timescales.
