Saw on the news EDI are now charging £5 for passengers to get fast track immigration.

Give it a few months and all UK airports will be offering it!

I'm confused - who does the money go to? Surely the Border Agency shouldn't be getting involved in a commercial endeavour (particularly if someone else is getting the benefit)?

Conversely, surely the Border Agency shouldn't be allowed to do something that make it in its interests to provide poor service?

Border Force to receive a portion for providing extra staff, the majority is to go into Dewar's pocket. It's a similar system at LHR but which is given free to 1st, Club & Exec card holders. Not sure if EDI scheme will allow the same. Also if it's as popular as speedy boarding it could result in longer queues than the pax at E-Gates or manned Desks.

When I worked in Africa in the 1970s it was standard practice to put some money in your passport before handing it to immigration in order to speed your entry to the country concerned. Sound familiar?

Just had a pleasurable trip to VIE ex EDI with EZY. The actual terminal space is pretty poorly laid out and very congested in areas.I didnt find the signage all that helpful. Otherwise was fine, standard duty free rat race. Disappointing bus transfer to remote stand both inbound and outbound when the rest of the gates were essentially empty. Efficiently through passport control on return. Saw the infamous 'UK immigration Fast Trak- coming soon' for those who presumably want to pay for it!
Security outbound at EDI was actually ok, no worse than BHX etc but not nearly as bad as I was expecting.
Overall was a reasonable experience.

Ryanair 2017

Am I right in thinking that they have dropped Poitiers? It was always only a peak summer route. I wonder if Flybe might step in with a smaller AC. There must be many routes from EDI that will never justify a near 200-seat plane.

As a thought, would it not be an idea for EDI to support route development by 'encouraging' a leasing company to base an 80-100 seater in EDI, and persuading the various Intercity operators (not just EZY) to use it to sustain their winter service frequencies at a level which would suit business users (minimum 3-4 flights per week) instead of cutting back or suspending the route?

Historically Poitiers has normally gone on sale some time after the main release for whatever reason, so it may still be added if there's room for it.

It's popular enough during the months it operates... 91%/89% loads last July/August respectively. So no need for a smaller aircraft as it doesn't look like FR have much problem filling the B738.

Read on another forum that they're in the process of constructing new stands at Edinburgh, has anyone heard anything about this?.

It's called future proofing...

In answer to the orginial question though, i think in read somewhere that three widebody stands were to be created, one of which an A380 would be able to fit on if required.

In addition taxiways are to be strengthened to allow larger aircraft to access the new stands which are to be located adjacent to the next part of the terminal extension which will include a more permanent immigrantion facility.

easy jet summer release

I assume alasdair1 is busy booking his Bodrum flights.. I see that two Palma flights, which carry Thomas Cook customers, are both using PMI based planes. Seem to be no new routes.
