The Easy jet flight to Bodrum was mainly for Thomas Cook customers. They're only offering Bodrum from Manchester next year, so I would be surprised if Easy jet fly.

Hi in oban,

The easyjet flight is ran by easyjet.com and sell the seats their also t cook have a small percentage of these seats but are booked though easyjet directly I was told.
Looking at july numbers via web availability its up on last years numbers
Its cheaper to book via easyjet.com as tcook have added a £50 margin upon the flights and you only get 15kgs on the ezy booked though t cook

We have booked direct eith easyjet and tcook only had seats from jun to aug
Also the first year or so it ran with no holiday company involved in 2014 & last year yeilding large seat sales and its up again this year

But its not a tc only opperation as they dont use it in march, apr, sept or oct as the flight runs end march to 29 oct

They could continue the Bodrum flights but use a 319.

This interestingly broadens the "who's doing best or worst at EDI and GLA - EK, EY or QR" discussion above. In the competition for long haul Far East etc traffic you always have to consider all the players, not just the ME3. AF, KL, BA etc are all in that market as are TK. Looks like TK blinked first which is hardly surprising given that Turkey is not as attractive a destination as it was (see other discussion above) plus, I must admit that I would feel less secure changing planes at IST than at some of the alternatives.
As an aside, I assume that EDI showered TK/EY/QR with incentives to start services. As someone with more than 30 years senior airline management, mostly on the commercial side, I think they got their tactics wrong. Better to have picked one player, probably EY, and got them to double daily as quickly as possible. Not so good for the spotters but much better connections for the passengers.

When discussing long haul connections, you should remember that you can also reach tthe Far East via Copenhagen or, this year, Helsinki. I suspect that the latter in particular will be quicker than via the Middle East - great circle routing.

TK have blinked everywhere, EDI / MAN / BHX /LGW and it is all to do with the political situation and the terrorist attack at IST rather than competition with EK/EY/QR.

I travelled to and from Istanbul 10 days after the coup and did not feel insecure in any way.

TKs route cuts are almost endless:

Shorthaul:

http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/268589/turkish-airlines-w16-europeshort-haul-service-changes-as-of-27aug16/

Longhaul:
http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/268588/turkish-airlines-w16-inter-continental-service-changes-as-of-27aug16/

So yes the reduction is nothing to do with the competition with the ME3 etc, more the political situation in Turkey.

I can see a lot of aircraft being parked this winter and possible order deferrals / cancellations on the horizon.

TK's frequency cut is not suprising after recent events at IST.

I appreciate that TK are making system wide cut backs (clearly I am not the only person that doesn't want to visit Turkey or transfer there) but my basic point, that you have to consider all the competition stands. I would expect the events in Turkey and the TK cut back to benefit the ME3 and others.

After TK to IST, has the AUH EY frequency reduction been confirmed?

I think it has been planned since late last year/early this year that EDI-AUH will again drop to 5 x pw this winter.

319 to Turkey could be somewhat limiting payload wise for EZY .

Hi Nil Further,

I agree the a319 would be limiting if this years loads are repeated next year and with bjv they would be operating as the only airline in Scotland serving bjv if they continue and if you add in the Gla pax who were with ls this year as well as the average load of 174per flight this year from Edi on 2 flights per week.
the ls average has been 187/189 over july and aug but will be dropped and I hear its sold well this year and the edi-bjv also
the 319 was used on the edi to dlm last year but this year upped to the 320 this year

NIL Further thank you for your addition its welcomed.
