How is the QR route holding up? has it reached the dizzy heights of a 70% load factor yet? Really surprised by how little it has impacted on EK at GLA. Just shows it may be two different markets. One wonders how long the OneWorlders can support the QR service. Must be one of the consistent lowest load factors on their network.

Despite the constant predictions of doom from GLA fanatics, one could argue that QR and EY have impacted EK at GLA as that route has shown drops in patronage every month for a while now whereas it always showed healthy growth prior to these routes starting. In saying that we only have the data up until April at the moment.

Slow and steady progress with this route IMHO. It's definitely NOT one of worst performing routes in the QR network - for those, look towards some of their US routes.

There's no denying that QR and EY have had an effect on EK at GLA - that was inevitable. That said, EK has only seen decreases of a few % at the very most (less than 1% in April) which typically equates to a few hundred pax. In other words, it's somewhat stagnant.

That said, look how cheap QR are in comparison to EK a lot of the time, one has to wonder if it's generating as much money as it should be, in which case EK losing a few hundred pax is nothing to lose sleep over, especially when there are 32 first class seats between GLA and DXB every day for a thousands of £ each. All of this doesn't take cargo in to account, however.

As for DOH-EDI vs DOH-USA, is that really a fair comparison?

VickersViscount, to answer your question, 64% in April 2016 based on the CAA figures.

The point was made that DOH-EDI must be have one of the lowest load factors on their network. Well, it doesn't as I pointed out!

As far as the fares go, it really depends when and where you are going - I've looked recently and EK were the cheapest to Bangkok for example.

Apologies, didn't realise he mentioned load factors specifically.

a logistics swap from A330 to A346 on tomorrows AUH though still showing as A330 in some booking engines). Lots of empty seats on both in and outbound by the looks of it if anyone wants to stretch out. Still reasonable fares for height of summer and school hols, just £400 at short notice EDI-AUH.

Its been upgauged because of strong demand (more than an A332 anyway) - lots of other places the A346 could have been sent after all.

If you were correct A350Saltire, then the airline would have planned for this, and likely not as a one off. Maintenance/aircraft availability more likely, or possibly even a large freight load (cube, not weight, as i think EDI would be weight limited at departure). Unless of course its a large inbound freight load, less likely for an ME3.

I understand a search is underway for an A340 towbar.

Would have thought the bar common to A330, it seems not.

Anyway, think your upgauge theory is wrong. Sorry.

Theres no more enthusiast like an EDI enthusiast! Theories elsewhere are not always fact as I think we've seen before!
