Certainly good numbers for both DOH and AUH especially. They dont seem to have affected either GLA-DXB (+3%) or NCL-DXB (+13%) this month

Yes very strong month for EY. Fares are very similar to EK and QR so we can't say it's all down to cheap tickets. EY do offer improved connections to Oz over QR though.

DOH - 81%
AUH - 90%

AUH - 53%

Plenty cargo coming off EY though. July should see an improvement. These routes will need a couple of years to firmly establish themselves.

Within one month an increase of the load factor from 53% to 90% for EY and 63% to 81% for QR?

From all platforms (including my own company corporate bookings) EY are consistently cheapest from MAN and EDI, especially EDI since launch. Your standard punter Expedia fare and base airline site fare may all be similar in peak summer. The recent EY sale will have helped as flights were going for silly money. A friend is going to KUL in sept for £400 ex EDI with EY. UK winter and April /May next year will be interesting....

Car Parks

Just dropped off my daughter at EDI and parked in the short term car park. Watch out as despite the notice saying that there is a 3% charge for credit cards only they are also taking this off debit cards.

CAR PARK

Under the Consumer Rights (Payment Surcharges) Regulations 2012 a supplier cannot charge you any more than the fee that they themselves incur for processing a payment made with a debit or credit card. For debit cards that is normally 20p per transaction and for credit cards 2% of the amount charged. If 20p is less than 3% of the parking charge that you paid then you should take it up with Edinburgh Airport and ask for a refund - I certainly would, not because of the small amount of money involved but on the principle of it and the fact that the airport's franchisee is acting illegally.

Cheers RedB - send an email today to EDI to enquire as to the reason for being charged. There is no mention of the 20p for debit cards ( I was charged 21p which is 3%). Not interested in any refund just curious as to what reply i'll get.

As you seem to know a thing or two can you say if this is why, for example Glasgow Taxis, charge a 'convenience fee' for credit cards? Does that make it legal?

I have a feeling EY will reduce frequency during the winter.

What gives you that feeling?

The evidence is there to justify it. I fully expect it to be announced.

They add capacity on most UK/Irish routes during our winters, it's their peak season, people going to the southern hemisphere for their summer weather.

What is the evidence? I'd be surprised, especially given that the winter season starts in around 6 weeks.

There is no evidence given that the route only started in June and from what I am led to believe by people that would know, forward bookings are looking good.

Indeed EY look to be out performing QR which is probably a result of their better connections to Australia.

Easyjet to Vienna

Vienna has appeared in the drop down menu of Easyjet destinations from EDI. Looks to begin on 6th February, operating 2 x weekly on a Saturday and a Tuesday.

There have regularly been low loads in both cabins. If you look at Wednesdays and Fridays from October onwards you will see that the flights show sold out for all cabins.
By the way this is nothing against Edinburgh and I appreciate its not been operating for long but this is going to get reduced.

I think there is something wrong with EY's booking system as lots of flights are shown as sold out - even those via AMS, DUB etc. Perhaps changes are afoot that don't involve reducing the service

I'm able to book all sorts of EDI-AUH flights on Tuesday's and Fridays from October, via AMS/DUB/LHR/MAN etc on all platforms, just not the direct EDI-AUH flight.

Not saying the frequency is being reduced, but, it is odd how it's just the directs that are not bookable on those 2 days?

Apparently it has been reduced after all.

Nothing wrong with the website, you may remember US Airways' EDI-PHL flights were all sold out before they chucked it.
