EDINBURGH - 2
Understand the Qatar was delayed around an hour outbound - anyone know why?
It is parked on stand 2A, created for the longer span of the 787 whilst avoiding the ruffians at the other end, and allowing direct inbound access to immigration.
Must be very recent as its not shown on the AIP charts. Aircraft parks diagonally I'm told, knocking out stand 3 for the duration.

For the first flight it parked on stand 10, with the result that BA A321s from LHR used stands 6 and 18. I wasn't there, but I'm guessing that stands 9 and 11 were out of use with the B788 on stand 10. I'm reasonably sure it's too wide for that stand. Future flights should use stand 2A.
Stands at the international end of the terminal have been significantly revised in the last couple of months but, as you say, the NATS publications haven't caught up yet. AFAIK the new stand layout, and maximum aircraft size, is as follows;
1 B75W
2 B75W Closed when 2A in use
2A B788 Closed when 2 or 3 in use
3 B76W Closed when 2A or 3A in use
3A A321 Closed when 3 in use
4 B738W Closed when 4A in use
4A B76W Closed when 4 or 5 in use
5 E190 Closed when 4A in use
6 B75W
I'm not sure whether or not this re-layout has had an impact on the dimensions of stands 1A and 1B.
As regards the delayed departure, there was talk on another forum that there was an issue with the flaps but I can't personally verify that story.
The departure routing was interesting. According to a post in another forum;
So, passengers get a tour of Fife on the way to Doha :-)

It is flight planned to go via Upper air route UL983 which runs from the GOW at Glasgow to Saint Abbs and onwards over the North Sea. The base level is FL245 and as such there is insufficient Controlled airspace in a straight line between Edinburgh and St Abbs to allow a join on the climb. The software used for flight planning will not allow a routing outside controlled airspace so it gets filed on a Grice departure towards FINDO south of Perth before picking up upper air route UP58, South East over Fife to pick up UL983 east of St Abbs.

NATS Data has been updated but it doesn't show the new stands.
Some of the changes I have noticed (there may be more) are;
CAP168 specifies RFFS categories but doesn't mention what the A prefix means. Can anyone clarify please?
I can't see any changes to stands 1-6 even though there has been a re-layout so that will presumably be the subject of a future update.
The PCN of taxiways Lima (31/F/C/X/T) and Mike (37/F/A/W/T) are still the same and remain therefore an impediment to regular use of the SE apron for higher ACN ops. A lot of work took place on these taxiways last year so I'm surprised that the PCNs have not been increased. Is there a technical problem with these pavements or is it a case that they need time to bed down before the PCNs are re-assessed?
Some of the changes I have noticed (there may be more) are;
- RFFS Categories have been amended from 8 (9 by arrangement) to A8 (A9 by arrangement).
- Taxiway Quebec has reduced in width from 36M to 18M.
- Assorted changes to arrival and departure procedures.
- Stand 208 and 209 centrelines have been revised (north cargo apron).

Without wishing to be accused of being a 'tram spotter', I was in Edinburgh yesterday (for reasons completely unrelated to the tram opening) and took the opportunity to take a ride on the new tram, from Murrayfield into town and then back to the airport. It was packed to the gunwales, lovely atmosphere on board on a sunny warm day (no aircon!) everybody very jovial, lots of tramspotters with cameras, and many other people just riding it for the hell of it or a day out with the kids. Nobody I spoke to was using it to get from A to B, but no doubt Monday will see that change.
It has aroused a lot of controversy as it was massively overbudget, caused enormous disruption, took twice as long to complete as it should have done, and only covers half the originally planned route, as it was meant to go out to Leith. There were a few 'anti' demonstrators along Princes Street but very low key.
There were a few teething problems which probably should not, given the time they've been doing 'dry runs', not have occurred. The signs at the stops giving the interval until the next arrival were not working, but there were recorded announcements saying that 'trams will arrive approximately every 10 minutes'. Once came in horrendously crowded, I decided not to take it, and a minute behind was another one, almost empty. To my mind, some of the turn radii are too tight and the tram has to come almost to walking pace to go round them. It is more expensive (+£1) than the bus to/from the airport, and I can't help wondering if it will be a bit of a white elephant, although I wonder if the parallel bus routes will be gradually phased out.

EDI - DOH As per CAA - 400 pax over 3 flights included in the May figures (254 seater 787 ) average ~ 50% loads (excluding the press, staff and dignitaries on the first flight)
Early days, probably wouldn't have expected much more at this stage. Onwards and upwards over the summer. Would be great to be on a half full 787 !
