But from Stirling and the north the M9 is direct to Edinburgh airport and generally fairly quiet whilst the M80/M73/M74 is an improvement compared to the M8/Kingston bridge it is still, for me anyway, the second choice.

with each of the current two ME operators often running 1/3 empty and various reduced schedules previously isnt this recipe for the so called #bloodbath?
Will be interested to see if these 'Emirates' visits are nothing more than someone putting two and two together, a bit like the 'imminent' China announcement due over a year ago.
I think if EK arrive the cat will be thrown amongst the pigeons and the landscape north of newcastle for ME will change significantly

I think the best bet for emirates is to stabilise Glasgow and Newcastle first or the three of them will regret it.
I think they need to get GLA up to x1 A380 and x1 777 and NCL up to x2 777 first. If GLA is already being affected by EDI-AUH/DOH, I think EDI-DXB would knacker things up for a while
Leave it to QR and EY to fight it out

Maybe EK are looking to move one of the GLA flights to EDI - or is that too simple an answer?
Don't shoot the messenger though guys, its a rumour with some substance. Nevertheless, its still a rumour until an official announcement.

More likely that GLA's proposed third daily will instead go to EDI.
Assuming they do start EDI.

EK
This rumour has been on this board since EK started in Glasgow, Edinburgh isn't the be all and end all airport in Scotland, Glasgow is growing, although 2yrs behind Edinburgh and EK are happy with Glasgow. Yes the 3 ME airlines are ripping the heart out of each other but would EDI management want to upset QR , EY & TK. TK I know have been loyal to Edinburgh even though they have realised Glasgow was the better option for them (senior sources from TK) they have struggled to get the larger Turkish community in Glasgow to use Edinburgh. I don't see a third EK flight in Scotland soon as there's plenty of spare seats at very low prices across QR, EY, TK & EK eastbound.

I think it's correct if Glasgow got the daily A380 it's a product offer very different to the rest.
Ncl needs the evening EK FLIGHT to allow better connections to Asia
I would guess that EK will do the above first before Edi flights or may do all 3 at once

The only problems there are, if EK were to "move" one of GLA's flights to EDI, or give them the 3rd daily flight, then these would be an evening or morning flight, respectively. This means they would not connect to the main bank at DXB, so Edinburgh would have slightly sub par connections.
Although... there's probably enough connections to major cities to satisfy EDI, i.e 7 flights a day to Bangkok
I certainly hope EK don't go into EDI all guns blazing though

There is no way they will move one of GLA's two daily flights - these are well utilised. A daily flight to EDI in place of a third flight to GLA could operate at any time and wouldnt be restricted to morning or evening.
Nobody is saying that EDI is the be all and end all however it serves Scotland's capital city, has huge inbound growth potential and is by a fair distance the busiest airport in the country (and please - that is not to belittle the success of GLA in any way, shape or form). Its therefore not hard to see why the might want to add Edinburgh to their considerable route network.
EDI are currently working on reinstating a widebody stand capable of handling a 77W - and boy do they need all of the stands they can get at the moment.
