Did the ME2 make it into the healthy 70's load factors for the start of peak Scottish summer travel?

unfortunately neither did, be it Ramadan or not (which didnt seem to affect other similar routes). EY went out mostly less than half full for the 22 days it operated in June. QR only a little better despite going daily and now fully eatablished. July and Aug should be better one hopes. very early days for the virtually unknown Etihad in Scotland. Interesting times ahead I feel. Those wanting an empty aircraft and fairly cheap prices should snap them up!

The complaints about premium lounge access for EY pax appears to have been resolved for now with a temporary arrangement made with No1 Traveller. The numbers are low each day and are being easily accommodated until a more permanant solution after the usual route assessment performance.

AUH - 53%

DOH - 63%

Plenty cargo coming off EY though. July should see an improvement. These routes will need a couple of years to firmly establish themselves.

I did notice that the US routes from EDI did well in June.

UA to EWR - 88%, 17,150 pax (up 8% on last year)
UA to ORD - 85%, 7467 pax (up 8% on last year)
AA to JFK - 79%, 8340 pax (higher than their other new route to BHX)

Air Canada Rouge to Toronto also carried 3,349 pax which was up by 13% on last year. Hopes that this one may get an extended season or become year-round.

QR/EY/TK/EK

Another one to watch is Turkish as their figures were 3% down in June (I think on like for like rotations) but still retuned a reasonable load factor.

However last winter the figures were awful and things might be okay whilst the sun shines but come the darker time of year it will be interesting to see how this scrap progresses.

The good thing about Turkish is that they are very patient, they will fight their corner and for the travelling public in the short-term it will be a good opportunity to pick up some bargains (as one the previous posters has stated about EY).

I still think it will be the New Year before we see some reasonable trends as to how things are going.

A350Saltire

The compare between AA at BHX & EDI is a difficult one as BHX is only 100 miles away from an airport offering over 10 flights a day by the same Alliance although I also realise from EDI you can save yourself between £100 and £400 per "Y" ticket by going via Heathrow.

Direct fares in August, September and October seem to follow a trend with BHX being £200 extra compared to EDI in "Y". September fares at BHX are £450 in excess of Heathrow fares in "Y"and on that basis you could wonder why anyone bothers to fly BHX - JFK unless it is frequent flyers and "the company" is footing the bill - I assume that this is part of the basis for this service and BA/AA would have done their homework first one would hope.

The other point of note is that BHX is currently bookable in winter despite the rather averaging looking figures but Edinburgh isn't although I believe that was always the plan and this seems to be the trend westbound at EDI in winter.

Thanks for the reply OltonPete. I understand what you are saying, it was just an observation really.

I think AA plan to start JFK from EDI in March next year so much earlier. I'd heard it been said before that there was too much TATL capacity at EDI but it's nice to see the figures proving that this is not the case.

Quick question, how are they getting arriving international passengers off the inbounds on stand 10, are they bussing the Etihad etc? The airbridge leads into the departure lounge.

Stand 10A

They are walking through the poly tunnel to a temporary building that looks like a cowshed. No E-Gates, builders with hard hats on as it isn't finished and covered in dust! The baggage belt fails all the time and is an absolute disgrace! Not what Etihad & Qatar were promised, KLM were meant to use stand 11 but have refused as totally unsafe so only one of their flights come through the 10:20 arrival. Lots of complaints by passengers not what you expect traveling on QR, EY & KL even FR wouldn't touch it with a barge poll.

arriving passengers do not enter the lounge. Instead they descend the stairs at the base of the airbridge and walk through a covered walkway to the new temporary arrivals hall just constructed at the East end of the main terminal building. Something of a grim welcome to Scotland

On last two trips (w/c 20Jul) with Norwegian the aircraft was either parked at a remote stand or one of the domestic gates. This meant busing from/to the departures and arrivals hall entrances around Gate 1.

Also noticed the ground traffic lanes airside were extremely congested with buses and baggage carts held up. At one point a ground handling employee had to direct traffic.

Is this temporary?

Why are some of the QR (incl EDI) UK flight numbers changing? Always thought it was odd that all the Middle East Scottish routes were the same?

The changes to flight numbers are probably to allow increased flights on some of their routes.

They've changed most of the network, not just the UK.

Lools like the DOH route is finally getting above average numbers for a peak summer month now which is less worrying, although now with a frequency increase compared to last year. The more budget end ,in term of Middle East fares with EY are trouncing QR already even after only 2 months! The power of a bargain. Wonder if all that can be sustained (especially outwith a peak summer month)
Surprised for AA that the EDI JFK didnt carry more than the PHL GLA flight to in peak July, maybe the quirks of an EDI August will put it above. The extra USA flights dont seem to have affected the EWR route which showed an increase last month (although not at its highest for double daily months) and even YYZ has increased (not sure if there was a summer only frequency change comparing last year) despite a huge increase (over 60%) to Canada with WestJet at Glasgow. Would suggest all these routes are generating pax rather than robbing to pay paul.
