I think you will find that 22 or 23 aircraft are based already. You just have to look at the number of departures on certain days this week with new routes to Valencia and Marseille already started. Cannot understand Ryanair giving up a valuable early morning departure slot, look like easy have snapped it up.

As I first though that the new Isle of Man route and Zadar were both only coming out because Ryanair allowed them to have the morning slots. Not only is it the based plane parking slot but it is also the early CPH at 08:00 slot which will soon be filled by Wizz.

Does anyone know if it will be 2 Wizz A321 in the mornings or just one 321 and the 320. There have just taken 2 more last week so expect them in soon and takes the number of 321 to 14. (HA-LXM/N) Geogria will be the furthest route done by Wizz. What about them expanding like their spoke about when ordering the A321Ceo's. New York, Dubai was their own words so who knows what could happen.

Plans submitted for £200m transport link between Luton Airport and Luton Airport Parkway station | Bedfordshire News

Also I was trawling a website today and it mentioned the airport expanding onto Wigmore Park. Also 24 million passengers was mentioned.

Snap shot into July 2017. There are still slots available for most times of the day. Times are GMT

Looks good but then so did the artists impressions of the passenger foot bridge. One thing is for sure and that is the paving slabs will be replaced by tarmac.

Terminal station

Parkway

Presumably there will be some kind of covered passage from the new station to the Terminal? Although this is Luton we're talking about. Anyone know when the plans will be available to view online?

You can always rely on Luton Airport delivering excellent mouth watering images showing how everything will look at the airport in the future where as in reality it's nothing like the images.

Actually some airport artist impressions have been spot on. I have one of pier A and a view inside the terminal that were built just like the impressions with no detrimental differences.

There is nothing on the towns planning portal at the moment. It will be interesting where version 6 of the drop off zone will go. I just find it remarkable that this is being built on infrastructure that isn't even finished yet and will all have to be dug up again.

We also have to remember that the plans in the planning application and the artist impressions can change dramatically before and after the work has started.

The terminals new stick out frontage did not appear in any applications I saw as can be seen in this original artist impression of the terminal. This one was the first of three.

The second version was still with us after the work started.

This is what we are getting. With the new terminal extension to the front the canopy ended up a lot smaller.

Wizz Air is to establish a base at Luton airport by deploying more than 6.3 million seats this year.

The eastern and central European budget carrier is adding three new routes from the Bedfordshire airport, increasing seat capacity by 13% over 2016.

The airline will start serving Tel Aviv, the Kosovan capital of Prishtina and Kutaisi in Georgia from June.

Frequencies on popular routes to Romania will also increase with the arrival of the new aircraft. Suceava will be served five times a week, Constanta four times a week and Iasi on a daily basis.

The summer expansion will see number of routes being served from the airport rise to 42. The creation of the airline’s 28th base at Luton will see 36 jobs being created.

Wizz Air carried more than five million passengers from Luton last year. Chief executie József Váradi said: “Today’s announcement once again underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to the UK.

“Our first Wizz Air flight from the UK took off from London Luton in 2004 and since then, we have carried over 35 million passengers on our low-fare UK routes.

“Wizz is bringing direct connections and the lowest-fare opportunities to our customers in the UK to explore everything that the Central and Eastern European region has to offer, whether visiting their friends and family, taking city breaks, exploring undiscovered countryside or sophisticated sea and ski resorts.

“By establishing base operations at London Luton, where Wizz is already the second largest operator and an important supporter of local jobs with our business partners, we are also creating direct local jobs with one of Europe’s fastest-growing airlines for the first time.”
Hmmm 4 airlines flying Luton to Tel Aviv. For some airlines it will all end in tears. Copenhagen mark 2 comes to mind but who will cave in first?

With Wizz creating a Luton base and flying to a non Eastern European airport this could open a whole new can of worms for easyjet. Could we ever see a day when Wizz fly a UK domestic route as they look at a post Brexit Britain? Actually they have had a Luton base for a few years now but have never announced it.

So in a couple of days we have had an Easyjet announcement about Luton so I wonder about their commitment to Stansted and now Wizz. Anything else to come I wonder? I can't see Ryanair doing anything big at Luton as they are wedded to STN unless they pick off easyjet routes before heading back to their Essex country retreat.

Tel Aviv is a very big market- STN has new operators too though.

What I know less about is the segmentation of that market. Wizz Air are a true low cost operator. Is there a (usually) young don't mind if it is cheap segment?

If BREXIT becomes a problem Wizz would just set up an UK AOC.

We have been saying for a long time Easy needs to differentiate itself.

I would suggest what Wizz means by a Luton base are crews which are actually based at Luton and not crews which night stop etc. More UK nationals employed by the airline?

Wizz already have quite a number of UK nationals among their flight deck crews but they tend not to stay long - moving on to better remunerated pastures.
