Airport hails success of jobs fair.
MORE than 900 visitors met with 32 employers based in and around London Luton Airport at its inaugural jobs fair.
The event, held in partnership with Luton Borough Council, gave employers the opportunity to promote more than 400 current job vacancies ranging from entry-level roles for school leavers and young people to managerial functions and technical specialities for more experienced workers.
Staged at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts, the event also highlighted the huge range of firms operating at the airport.
Among those present at the fair were easyJet, the RAF, travel firm Thomson and National Express as well as construction firms working on the airport redevelopment, engineering firms that maintain aircraft, retail firms and travel companies.
London Luton’s community relations executive Chika Austin said: “The fair provided a great opportunity for local people to get to know the wide range of employers and proved a fantastic opportunity for local job-seekers to speak directly to local employers.
"After such a successful event, we are looking forward to welcoming a host of new faces at the airport embarking on exciting new careers.”
The airport is investing more than £110 million to transform the airport and increase capacity. The investment is expected to increase the number of people employed by the airport and its supply chain from 15,900 in 2013 to 23,000 by 2030.
Research shows that the average gross wage at London Luton Airport is £38,000 per year, compared to £27,000 nationally.
Chika said: “It was great to see so many members of our local community at the fair looking to be part of this hugely exciting time for the airport.
"Our £110 million transformation is not just about improving passengers’ experience. We also want local residents to share in our success.”

Wizzair A321 Turnaround Times
Just out of curiousity what turnaround time has Wizzair allocated for their A321's coming into Luton?
I think the A320's are allowed 25 minutes, just curious with these larger aircraft, what time have they allow for these? Bearing in mind they potentially hold an additional 60 passengers (33% increase on an A320) and this requires additional fuel and baggage to be loaded.
I think Wizz's A321, is the largest aircraft type to be operated by a proper Low Cost Carrier. While people could say Monarch operate the A321 and are a similar Low Cost airline, they are far more generous with turnaround times of usually a minimum of 45 to 75 minutes.
Also with these larger aircraft coming into Luton on a far more frequent basis, does this pose other issues, that are currently affecting the airport?
I know apron space is limited, and if these larger aircraft are coming in more often and taking longer to turnaround, does this cause problems? Especially with the Wizz rush at around 7.30-8.30am when there can be upto 10-15 Wizz aircraft on the ground and in the near future 4-5 of these could be A321's all at the same time.

Jet Exchange to offer Stateside trips following FAA and security approvals
London Luton-based Jet Exchange has secured a series of approvals permitting transatlantic travel for its clients. The operator has been approved by the US Department of Transportation and the FAA to conduct commercial operations, and has also been granted approved carrier status from the US Department of Homeland Security, easing entry into the USA for passengers holding a passport from a participating country in the US Visa Waiver Program. Passengers from participating countries, flying on the company's CL604, will only require a valid passport and ESTA for entry.
Says MD Ian Austin: “Our Challenger 604 provides a convenient and cost-effective option for trips over the Atlantic. Brokers can now be sure that their clients will have easy entry into the US while travelling in comfort and luxury. Our crews have already carried out a number of tours covering the length and breadth of the continent, while offering the highest levels of service.”

With Wizz and their A321's we need to remember that Pier 2 is another 3 A321 stands and Bucharest doesn't come in till 08:50. So both Warsaw and Budapest have both gone by then. The departure leaves at 09:25 so 35 mins turnaround. That's based on this summer and summer 2017. Winter 2016 it will come in earlier.

Also the gates serving the pier are getting renumbered in advance of new gates being ready, when the number of gates will again match the number of stands (4 on each side).

LTNman - thanks for posting the link, always good to hear what trade press is saying about Luton. Would have liked something a bit more incisive from the author though - seemed to be a lot of gushing praise for the airport without any kind of analysis; almost came across a press release by LLA ! :-)

Those aerial shots always remind me how much room is wasted parking cars, Just build upward 4 or 5 levels and then you have loads of space to work with.

Absolutely amazing, 15M will be next, place your bets please!
It would not surprise me that Thomas Cook will eventually consolidate its flights for next year and will push its Luton passengers back to Gatwick to fill the aircraft there.
I think growth will continue from migrants and their families. A walk around the airport and its bus station and drop off area demonstrates quite nicely how many Eastern Europeans actually use Luton as English is fast becoming a second language.
Of course breaks to the UK by the rest of the EU will grow but I don't think it will keep pace with Brits cutting back.

Unlike the midterm and short term car parks the long term car park together with Wigmore Park have been parceled up into plots of land as part of the government enterprise zones for airport development. One can only guess about what use zones 1B and 1C are put to?
from reports it is a downgrade to normal El-Al service, defo not Exec configuration.

I was just reading they are used often to ferry sports teams, surprised they are a downgrade.
