Beginning in March, the service will operate twice-weekly to Weeze Airport, which is an hour’s drive away from the German city.
The low-cost carrier had previously announced plans to launch a five-weekly service to Faro in Portugal next summer.
Head of communications Robin Kiely said the two new routes will carry two million passengers a year.
7 flights per week x2 x180 x52 =131,000.
Luton based airframe on both flights to Weeze.

The Dusseldorf-Weeze route will end from Stansted in March 2017.
I guess it has kind of been swallowed up over recent months/years with the likes of Dortmund and Cologne/Bonn.
Good to see they will still provide an option for people nearer Weeze though.

Ryanair have a lot of these twice weekly flights from regional airports. Useless for business passengers, but enough to make it impossible for another operator to come in with a proper frequency using a a/c half the size.

15 million for 2016 possible?
Year to date the airport handled 12,518,335 passengers up to the end of October 2016.
That means the airport needs to only 1.25 million for November and December, then the airport is banging on the door of 15 million per year.
HOLY SCHMOLY!
Charter Traffic
Even though charter traffic was up 5.5% in October, (which I think was due to the late half term this year, charters operated a little later into the month than previous year summer schedules), BUT for the year in general, it is down 2.9%.
This is a great shame to see it decline again, as the airport has a very low ratio of charter to scheduled traffic compared to most other major UK airports.

Construction update
First update for a couple of weeks as not much to report at the moment.
A vending machine issuing keep dry ponchos for those unfortunate to have to wait for a coach in the rain has been installed by the coach bays.
In the drop off area the airport has excelled itself by installing 2 second hand bus shelters that will keep maybe 10 passengers dry if the wind is blowing in from the south. The shelters have been placed in a location that waiting passengers rarely stand so I doubt they will be overwhelmed.
A new super sized fence is being installed along side Taxiway Delta. The existing temporary fence that was placed in the middle of the service road was moved to the edge a few weeks ago. This new fence is also being installed along the edge of the service road.
The new road from the exit barriers has a temporary fenced route through it which passes under both passenger footbridges. This is being used by cars from the drop off zone only while traffic from the short term car park is still using the temporary roadway until the final kerbing is complete.
The embankment inside the CTA has been pegged out for the exit route of the duel carriageway. The MTS will also cross the embankment to the left when this new road will have to be removed.
...while outside the CTA work continues on the mid term car park entrance.

Thanks LTNman
Where is all the traffic?
Seriously, in the last 2 weeks I have come across no queues up to the Holiday Inn Roundabout, I may have been lucky or are things generally getting better (or time or year)?. With 15M fast approaching this needs to be cracked by next Easter!

Where is all the traffic?
Used the Airport twice last week......Sunday & Tuesday.
Sunday we arrived at 17:50 from TLS with EZY [Nigh on full flt] no traffic seen at all. Although the bus stops where hideous!
Tuesday - Arrived at the Airport at 05:30 for a day trip to AMS, no traffic seen at all and the same on arrival at 18:00. Through security in 2mins!
Very impressed. Both times sat in the car within 25mins of on blocks. Immigration very quick.
To be fair to STN where we flew out of on Sunday, exactly the same.

I really don't think that the airport has solved the traffic issue within the CTA due to the pedestrian crossing inside the drop off zone. All that will happen is the queues will be half the length due to dueling but the actual queuing time will be close to what it was in the summer as the traffic feeds into a single lane for the drop off area.
I forgot to mention that a number plate reading camera has appeared on the horseshoe bend by the entrance of the drop off area but something appears to have hit it as there is a big dent in it.
Security has got very lax inside the drop off area as even at this time of year there will be 3 or 4 cars parked up with no drivers in sight. Those cars can be parked there for long period of time as the airport has stopped using the tow truck.

Twice a week is a strange schedule that certainly isn't business friendly and hardly leisure friendly either. Hopefully it's just the start and flights will increase over time

Couple of nights ago they trenched across the existing road from the mid-term to the opposite verge. Electric for the lights perhaps. If I could offer an opinion on the congestion suffered at times. I drive coaches in an out a couple of times a day and inconsiderate/illegal parking and dropping off generate much of the congestion. The illegal parking of private hire vehicles outside the hotels further adds to the problem.
However, I can fully understand punters ringing a local mini-cab to collect them whether on or off site. Ad-Lees boast of chauffeur driven cars at black cab prices is disingenuous at the least. Two quotes of £42 to Dunstable and £15 to Farley Hill will keep them underemployed and approach roads obstructed.

The latest ground charts show the new stand markings for the East Apron mentioned by LTNman. Does anyone know why stand 44L and 45R are set back from the apron line? Is this temporary or permanent?
