Redevelopment weekly update
The CTA roundabout has been marked out and is now being dug out for its partial removal. A new smaller roundabout will follow but in a slightly different location.
The first of the bus bays has had concrete laid with other bays having reinforcement steel bars fitted in readiness for concreting.
Tarmac has been laid from from almost the drop off area to half way along the south stands for the new exit road.
From November 2nd a section of short term car park will close as the new road has to cut a new path through it to allow space to be created for the new multistory car park. Also the road will be stretched to eleven lanes to allow for 4 exit barriers for the short term car park. 5 exit barriers for the drop off area and 2 exit barriers for the multistory car park. All these barriers will be side by side in what is now the short term car park.
The date for the completion of the multistory car park is now August/ September. With a big chunk of the short term car park lost there will be interesting times next summer.
The photo shows the road being dug out as it curves away from the south stands by the entrance to what was the staff car park. This road will continue into the short term car park.
Fencing is now being put up around the mid term car park extension.

Presumably the mid term extension is to provide the shortfall from the loss of the short term car park whilst all the work is carried out.
I wonder if they will make an area close to the exit of the mid term car park available as short term during next spring/summer.
Also when I dropped off friends last week I noticed that nothing is yet marked out for the dualling into the CTA.
Could it be that they plan to divert buses into the new bays before moving development to the current bus lanes in front of the terminal-makes sense but lord knows where all the taxis will go😳

Because the work started around 6 months late it is being done out of sequence from what was originally planned. The road upgrade was I think in 6 phases, the first phase of the road upgrade was meant to include the dueling from the Ibis to the tunnel. Now it looks like it will be the last thing to be finished as they crack on with the CTA before next summers peak.

Easyjet S16
Quick look through the schedule at the end of July gives the following.
Mon, Tue , Wed and Fri 18 Based Units departures before 08.00am.
Thurs , Sat and Sun 19 Based units.
This would indicate the likelihood of new routes being announced soon if last year was anything to go by!
Interesting that both Essaouira and Mykonos appear to drop to weekly from the end of June for the summer season.

I see that one of the roads in the CTA has been named Easy Way no doubt in tribute to a certain airline. It might have been that way for a while but I have only just spotted it.

I would like to see Minsk, not a well served route from the UK but a great destination. Others on my wish list include Bari, Tangiers and a bit closer to home maybe Newquay and Newcastle.

Haha, maybe unrealistic at the moment but considering some of the Wizz routes we currently have at Luton (which we never thought possible) then maybe one day it may be a possibility !

While there were good reasons why it was difficult to extend the taxiway to the end of 26 that didn't seem to apply to the 08 end so maybe the car park extension was more of a priority as the western end of the car park extension boundary is the point where the land drops away so the car park extension could have been a longer taxiway to the end of 08

I'm amazed that neither Wizz nor easyJet have picked up?
On a seperate note, I see La Compagnie have an earlier slot time from today, departing at 16.45 with the return flight landing at 09.30. I know it's only an hours difference on departure but that seems a much better slot time especially for the arrival into New York.
Bari and Tangiers interesting? Well it depends what you're looking for I suppose, but I can't imagine route planners spending too much time on their calculators on those two.
And Minsk? Given that easyJet have pulled out flights from Moscow (population 10m) owing to lack of demand, why would anyone start a route to Minsk (for which visas at £100 a go are required) with a population of just 2m and a declining economy?
The reason for the slot change at La Compagnie is probably because the US does not put its clocks back until next weekend, thus the flight will arrive in EWR at the same time until then, when the departure time may well change again.

Tangiers & Minsk, I can't see the demand for them. I think plugging the gaps in the network at the moment would be the first - obvious options for the summer would be Dubrovnik and maybe Pula, Bari I can understand and maybe a couple more Greek routes.
On the back of the success of Copenhagen, you wonder if more Scandic routes could be offered...

The demand remains however the money doesn't !
As for Belorussia well similarly the final Leninist dictatorship in Europe continues to restrict and otherwise control free travel opportunities to the majority of its citizens.
Other than the annual Chernobyl rest-bite holidays in the UK lake district for which Belavia serve Manchester forget it till Lukashenko is overthrown or is assassinated.

It would be great to see easyJet launch other Scandic routes - do they currently have any presence at all in Sweden or Norway?
A Luton to Stockholm and/or Luton to Oslo service would be great

I imagine that many of the people with an EU passport travelling for non-business reasons between the UK and Minsk who cannot afford £500 will instead fly between the UK and Vilnius, and then take the train between Vilnius and Minsk.
Alternatively a 1-stop with Lufthansa, LOT, Air Baltic, Austrian or Ukraine Intl may be considered.
Strongly agree with rutankrd - there are plenty of other cities in Europe worthy of a route to Luton before Minsk

Bari sounds good, How about bringing Trapani or Palermo back to LTN. EZY does CTA for the other side of the Island but FR jumped ship to STN. I remember a Palermo connection full of people with ridiculous amounts of oversized luggage for as long as I have been alive except for recent years.

easyJet possible new routes
Palermo would be a great addition, also a return to Cagliari
How about Jersey too?
EZY have 4 x weekly flights from SEN next summer so you'd think it might be possible to sustain a similar level of service from LTN?
I know they tried and failed on the route once before but if memory serves they operates daily which is way too much capacity.
I may be clutching at straws with this one but you never know
