The arrivals hall now has no public access with tape across external revolving doors and boarding by the side of the former M&S outlet. What a shambles that there isn't a single sign to direct passengers to the end of the old terminal either inside or outside the new terminal.

Why not chop the crossing off and make everyone walk around the outside - in front of the old arrivals exit and the entrance to departures?

This is the flights leaving Copenhagen.
FR7403 06:35 07:25
FR2678 11:05 11:55
FR410 16:10 17:00
FR7407 20:05 20:55
Luton to Copenhagen
FR7404 07:50 10:40
FR2679 12:20 15:10
FR411 17:25 20:15
FR7408 21:20 00:10
This means that all of the flights will be used by a plane based in Copenhagen allowing others flights to be operated from Luton. Both easyjet and Ryanair have been trying to throw each other off the route but instead both are taking the market from the other airports. Both airlines so far have had really high loads. So in the winter there will be 28 Ryanair flights and 24 easyjet fights. Last year that number was 0 and now 52 flights a week. Could become the airports most popular route going at this amount of people using these services.

So are they hurting LHR and/or LGW or is it all new market stimulation?
Guess we'll have to wait for the CAA April/May route stats to find out.

I departed Luton with Ryanair and came back on Easyjet as Ryanair did not have an evening service. This has now been fixed. Both my flights were very popular with Danish and Swedish passengers.

So Copenhagen will become the most served destination from Luton and the route with most rotations for Ryanair - more even that Dublin for them which is pretty incredible. Will be interesting to see if the route manages to sustain such a high level of operation from both FR and EZY and if it leads to more Scandinavian routes? If Copenhagen can sustain up to 8 flights per day, surely somewhere like Stockholm could sustain at least a couple of daily flights?

I remember when Ryanair almost had an hourly service from Stansted to Prestwick, now there is none. What comes can just as easily go.

The Ryanair press release boasts of 11 routes next winter. I'm sure they have sustained more than that in the past - up to 20 destinations have been served, but I'm not sure whether all were year-round.

Passenger numbers at Luton airport jumped 15.7 per cent in May compared with the same month last year.

Can't help but think the airport redevelopment work should have been started two years ago so some of the benefits would now be coming on stream to cope with the extra numbers.

All the work so far carried out and being undertaken now is still the enabling work in preparation for the redevelopment work, which not only hasn't started yet but there is still no sign of it starting yet. The redevelopment work was supposed to start in the first quarter with all the pre work carried out last year. We are now approaching the start of the third quarter.

At some point around a third of the ground floor will have to be closed off which will mean no catering or bars landside apart from outside the terminal and in the rough temporary arrivals area. If the old arrivals area, which was closed last week is included then that will bring the figure up to around 45%. These facilities won't be replaced until the terminal extension is built and that won't happen until the bus station is moved and that won't happen until the road layout is moved.

At some point the airport is going to have to put up the full signs so I would think that growth figures over the next 2 or 3 years will be flat.

The boss of all-business class airline La Compagnie has hinted that a second aircraft is likely to be based in London following the successful start to the new route.

The carrier launched the London – New York Service, flying out of Luton airport, in April with return flights for two starting at £1007.

Chief executive Frantz Yvelin told TTG: “On the London route all I can tell you is that we are right now standing between 50 and 60% [load factors]. Just to make a comparison from where we’re coming from, it’s an excellent start much better than the Parisian one.”

Yvelin admitted that the launch had not been without its problems and that a second aircraft had had to be chartered for a couple of days.

“Now we are absolutely normal. We are leaving on time arriving on time and everything is working fine,” he said.

Yvelin would not be drawn on whether or not he was planning to open up a third route, saying that it was “too early” to announce a decision.

“We are working on two different scenarios. The first one would be to increase either one route or the other in terms of frequencies the second one would be… to open another one.”

He added: “All I can say whatever it would be with number three, number four, number five, number six aeroplane, we will not stay with one aeroplane out of London that’s the most certain [thing].

La Compagnie, is following in the footsteps of four similar carriers, none of which exist anymore. Maxjet, Silverjet and Eos all went bust while L’Avion, Yvelin’s previous airline, was sold to British Airways for £54m.

La Compagnie

Well hopefully the early issues have been ironed out and they will now start to succeed. It would be good to see them overcome the issues they've faced and make the route a success.

As for a second aircraft, an additional service to EWR seems the most obvious. Failing that, IAD seems quite logical. Not so sure about BOS and could a 757 fly non-stop to DXB?

Adding to capacity, Blue Air have introduced a 737-800 recently.
El Al make occasional use of a 737-900, and WizzAir will be introducing A321s in November.

DXB is near enough identical in distance to NYC, so there would be no issues with range. I personally think the most likely outcome would be extra frequencies on LTN-EWR or another US route. I do hope they survive though as it is a tough market they are competing in.

Yeah adfly, I tend to agree. EWR seems the best option for a second service. A twice daily service seems feasible and it would give much better and more flexible timings on the route if they could say, get a morning departure from LTN to complement the existing early evening one.

As you say, a very competitive market - even somewhere like IAD has tough competition. Fingers crossed for them. The early signs weren't good but hopefully they are upping their game now.

Hopefully The Company can create a new market, just remember the last operator to Copenhagen was Debonair and now flights a doing well load wise in just a few months.
