Freebird

Freebird today was an ad-hoc, comes back Sunday. Think it's their first visit to LTN.

Calm down dear.....no need for inverted commas and I was being sarcastic about their marketing department. I cannot actually believe I had to explain that

This year Luton is awash with flights to Copenhagen as Ryanair and Easyjet go head to head.

On my outbound flight with Ryanair I would say that the aircraft was somewhere between 85-90% full. On my returning easyjet flight the aircraft was full apart from the odd empty seat.

As for the airport at the peak of the morning rush it was fine. Maybe a wait of around 8 minutes to get through immigration and coming back despite being bussed to the terminal from the aircraft to get land side took under 10 minutes with no queues at border control.

I was quite impressed with the efficiency of the operation at Luton as it was like a well oiled machine. As for the redevelopment work everything happening is still behind the scenes but I did notice that the old Siverjet terminal is being gutted. Still no signs of a contractors village being built so the wait continues.

First floor old terminal waiting area

This was the old departure lounge but is now just used as a corridor and boarding area.

The site of the original duty free shop now gates 1-7

Ryanair

According to this mornings schedules, there are 6 Ryanair departures from LTN before 7am this morning and that excludes the CPH flight. Has the LTN based fleet increased from the previous 4 aircraft?

Ryanair

Like you, I thought there were only 4 planes at Luton but these are the 6 flights listed for this morning before 7am so I'm intrigued - is this just a weekend expansion or has the fleet size grown every day?

FR 331 Dublin 6.30am

FR 3511 Lanzarote 6.30am

FR 3466 Kaunas 6.40am

FR 2306 Bratislava 6.45 am

FR 3506 Marrakech 6.45am

FR 3525 Fuerteventura 6.55am

Well there is no history of those flights on the flight radar recorder.

FR 3511 Lanzarote 6.30am
FR 2306 Bratislava 6.45 am

All the others show up.

This mornings Ryanair based aircraft departures were:

0646 Dublin - EI-DWB
0653 Kaunas - EI-ESW
0713 Fuerteventure - EI-EMK
0742 Marrakech - EI-ENX

The only other morning departure at that time was Copenhagan in and then out on EI-DWS.

The Ryanair website flight info page does indeed show that FR3511 left Luton at 06:30 and FR2306 to Bratislava left at 6:45 so indeed 6 aircraft in use today.

Their timetable shows they fly to 17 destinations from Luton in May. Is that an increase as I have no idea where they fly to?

(Edit) something strange about the live flight info page at Ryanair. If you enter the 2306 it usually shows that it is leaving tonight but on occasions it left at 6:45 and arrive 20 mintes early. 3511 is now not showing at all.

VLM F50

Anyone know what the VLM F50 in from INV and out to Antwerp (empty I think) was about this afternoon- will there be more VLM ad hoc now they are a Luton operator?

The only Ryanair flight to Bratislava left Luton at 1810 this evening.

There was no Ryanair flight to Lanzarote today.

4 based aircraft performed the flights as I've listed above.

VLM/Cityjet charters have been quite common for a long while along with BMI Regional.

There was also a NEOS 767.

Can I just say, LTNman, those are some great photos

Never been there myself but you can really get a feel of the airport from them

Just two more then seeing you liked them. This is the existing route all passengers take after passing through security but this route and the shops either side will be converted into two big retail outlets during the redevelopment. Passengers will follow a different path lined with shops to be constructed during the redevelopment that will pass through the terminal extension.

This is one of the airports piers. It will be filled in to make it wider in places within the next two years. Another pier looking just like this one will be built to serve the existing remote stands on the eastern apron and will also be used as a busing point for the south apron. All photos taken during the peak morning rush and were taken between 6:45 and 7:30.

Ryanair

Thanks for the clarification re Ryanair. Even today, I've seen listings showing 6 early morning departures. I always thought the fleet size had stayed at 4 so clearly there's a flight reporting fault somewhere.

It has made me wonder if Ryanair will ever think about increasing their Luton prescience? With their STN operation growing and EZY at Luton expanding, it's hard to see them growing the Luton base but I suppose anythings possible?

This could be a future schedule that has been loaded into the Ryanair system and was released early by mistake. Maybe the future is for a 6 base Ryanair operation?

Ryanair

FR3511 to Lanzarote departing at 06.30 operate on Wed + Sun.

FR2306 to Bratislava departing at 06.45 operate on Mon, Wed and Fri.

So yes an input error somewhere.

From the start of the winter schedules on October 25, 2015 its Copenhagen route will grow from two to three daily rotations (apparently).

Work started this week on the removal of Harrods old FPO by the south apron. The former easyjet HQ and old spectators area will also be removed as apart of the land clearance program associated with the redevelopment of the CTA.
