DY will be operating flights from Gatwick instead of Thomson. TOM were supposed operate LGW-ALC 2 weekly but will now just operate 1 weekly next summer. DY will operate the other. Same applies to TFS. DY will operate some of the flights TOM were supposed to operate from Gatwick to Tenerife. DY will also operate some flights from Gatwick - Fuerteventura, La Palma, Ibiza, Palma, Mahon, Kefalonia, Kos, Paphos (from Oct 14) & Malaga instead of Thomson.
TOM will use there aircraft to operate 2 new short haul routes from Gatwick to Araxos Patras and Mykonos in Greece. They have also increased flights from Gatwick - Dalaman, Antalya, Sharm-El-Sheikh, Palma & Sal in Cape Verde for Summer 2014.

More problems with B787
Troubles never seem to end for the Dreamliner.
Right now a Norwegian B787 is stranded in NY (JFK) because of fuel system related faults. It's not the first time this has happened. Right before Christmas a few hundred Scandinavians were stranded in Florida because of a faulty Norwegian Dreamliner.
From Swedish newspaper:
Hundratals fast i USA efter fel i Norwegianplan - DN.SE
English translation:
The 276 passengers should have flown from New York, USA destined for Oslo at 21:30 local time. But during start up procedures they discovered a technical malfunction related to the fuel, on the plane of type Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Daniel Kirchoff says. That's why the plane could not depart.
I wonder why passengers have so little understanding for airtravel delays. It really grinds my gears. I'd rather be a litte late to wherever I'm going than a little early to.. death.
EDIT: Thanks to mods who found the correct thread to put this in!

Snuggles - people generally in life do not tolerate unreliability. The passengers do not care that the route has been fine every day for the last month - they care only about their flight *right now*. You can argue over contract law as much as you like, but airlines present the sale of a ticket in their marketing as a commitment to get passenger from A to B on date and times stated. Woe betide the passenger who checks in late...
Yes the courts may interpret the terms+conditions on the ticket sale formally in the airline's favour, but passenger who paid for ticket saw the marketing and bought the ticket based on marketing. If the airline cannot deliver on what the marketing promised, the passenger deems it the airline's problem and will consider it fair to vent fury on the airline.
Airlines know that new aircraft have issues - passengers don't. Is it fair to market a flight saying all the benefits of a new aircraft, keep quiet on the unreliability and then disclaim all responsibility when things go wrong ?

Growing pains i think but no quick fix open to Norwegian either, they have for now only 3 787 another 4 due next year, hopefully dispatch reliability across the world wide fleet of 787 will improve and more units may allow NLH more operational flexibility.

Another mishap for Norwegian.
Norwegianplan fast i Bangkok - DN.SE
Another plane load of passengers stuck, this time in Bangkok. Replacement planes are being flown in to transport passengers to their destination. Those poor buggars who had to spen New Years in an airport motel will also have a new plane flown in.
Norwegian has no doubts about the Dreamliner though.
English translation by me:
- No we have faith in the Dreamliner and we have had a long period when we have been satisfied with the business. It is of course a big inconvenience, what has happened now, and I can understand that passengers are frustrated, David Kirchoff says.
davidjohnson6: I am not quite sure what you want to say. I'm just thinking that in the air it's better to be safe than sorry.

– Nej vi har tilltro till Dreamliner och har haft en lång period där vi varit tillfreds med vår verksamhet. Men det är klart att det som har skett nu är beklagligt och jag förstår att passagerarna är frustrerade, säger Daniel Kirchhoff.

I would think over 27m for 2014 given the large number of new routes that started in 2013 most of which seem to be seeing improved load factors now plus additional aircraft and of course long haul should add a million pax, provide the Americans don't block route licences.

I think you are a tad too optimistic now LNIDA. The growth with 14 new B738 and 3 new B788 added and no changes to the B733s was +3.11 million passengers. In 2014 only 11 new B738 will arrive from Seattle together with 4 more B788 and one less B733. A full year use of B788 the way Norwegian are utilizing them and with a cabin load of 80% will give 437 000 passengers. With that in mind the long haul growth will end up at around 2.08 million new passengers in 2014. The short haul fleet using the 2013 numbers will generate around the same number of new passengers (2.02 million) as the long haul fleet. With that the total growth for 2014 may end up at +4.1 million passengers and a total passenger number in the neighbourhood to 24.8 million passengers.

My first estimate on growth was closer to yours, but many of last years deliveries were at the very end of the year and of course LGW was a late start in terms of routes, so i'll stick with my estimate for now. pax numberers for Feb are up 22% YoY and it will take time for long haul time to get into it's stride.
Some reductions on the winter program compared with this winter.

Does that mean Gatwick-Alesund is going from year-round to summer-only, or even being dropped ?
Then again, Gatwick-Helsinki, Gatwick-Stockholm and Gatwick-Gothenburg aren't on sale for November 2014 either, so maybe one can't draw inferences quite yet...

Time for the airline to consolidate their routes and markets me thinks....

A massive actual and planned expansion of their fleet along with falling profitability and more debt is a very serious cocktail.

There was an interesting article in The Log recently;
No doubt LNIDA will be along to tell us where the analysts have gone wrong...
Investment analysts are split on both whether Norwegian can make long-haul work and whether it can develop its short-haul business as a viable pan European brand. At this stage one experienced analyst's view is that long-haul is on the cusp between genius and lunacy. Near term the analysts say earnings momentum is adverse with margins expected to be pressured and vulnerable to competitor response .
