British Airways
Iwasnt implying there was anything wrong with running aircraft on until the time out of hours or run out of cycles. As someone pointed out Lufty take the same approach with 747s as did AF with their 747 -100s .
These carriers would have done the math on getting the best economic solution and adopted that and I am sure that back in the day all three airlines provided as good a level of maintenance as existed anywhere to support the veterans. The T 7 seems a very well designed aircraft with an immensely tough airframe (BA at LHR and Asiana at SFO testify to that) so why not keep them in service, as long as the fuel economics are ok, for a good long period

Any truth in reports that BA are dropping Bergen and Stavanger from the end of October 2017 ? Can't say I'm hugely surprised as whenever I looked at fares on these two routes, they always seemed a little lower than I might have expected. Presumably with WTI crude trading below $45 per barrel, corporate demand on the Stavanger route is weak

On a different topic - my wife is flying to Milan Malpensa during the strike. I have been told that Qatar are providing a mini fleet of aircraft to cover some of the cancellations. Is this true? I heard this from someone who works at Leeds airport this morning.
It seems Cruz is determined to make BA a low cost carrier and follow the likes of FR.

QR operated shorthaul
Flew LHR - WAW this morning on a QR operated flight BA846
Overall impression : Excellent
Cabin interior : not the latest QR economy cabin. Separate J cabin configured 2-2
Seat pitch : excellent. Im 6'2 and I could certainly notice the increased seat pitch.
Crew: Outstanding, their focus on each individual was very impressive.
Service : standard QR inflight catering, refreshments and warm baked products. All without charge.
Overall, it was like the good-old-days. I wish QR were flying me home tomorrow.

In today's FT:
IAG calls for EU to relax ‘arcane’ ownership laws: UK’s departure could force British Airways’ owner to buy out shareholders or risk break-up
IAG calls for EU to relax ‘arcane’ ownership laws: UK’s departure could force British Airways’ owner to buy out shareholders or risk break-up
Senior EU officials, analysts and rivals of IAG have told the Financial Times that, unless the UK and EU reach an agreement to waive the issue, IAG will be forced to spin off part of the group or buy out up to a quarter of its shareholder base in order to maintain lucrative EU flying rights.
A further strike planned for August, right in the middle of the holiday season. Come on everyone sort this mess out.

As a oldCambrian/BA driver ,to see the company that I was proud of ,sleep walking to disaster.Being led by small minded management. Not sorting out the c/c problem ,letting other airlines take on routes that we operated for years very successfully ie lax.sea, sfo etc no leadership just one object more profit. In the future somebody will have one hell of a problem to recover the status of this once great airline

Only for a short term gain, when people like yourself are turned off by effects of this management, the profit will fall ,when people realise that BA are trading on their old hard gain achievements
I’m already turned off by it! I avoid BA as much as possible. But plenty of people are clearly willing to put up with them, so I really can’t see them “sleepwalking to disaster” as you put it. In financial terms they perform pretty well.

It was rumoured that the 2010 strike over a 2 week period cost BA between £90-£100 millions. The current strike by no means as far reaching and costly has entered its second year and must have occurred over at least 8 weeks (someone no doubt will correct me). The hire in costs of Qatar, cancellations and the extra use of legacy / MF crew that are working can only have an eventual negative knock on effect. The costs by now must exceed that of 2010, I wonder how Alex Cruz the anonymous BA CE0 not WW is going to rescue these losses when normal service is resumed? I think it may well cost AC his job!
This is the latest BA safety video. What does everyone think? Personally if Joanna Lumley and Gordon Ramsey did it on their own it would have more effect. Not over keen on the charity scene at the end.
