Thanks Ametyst1. That is exactly what I did yesterday and got nowhere. I have tried it again today and found nothing on the days needed and nothing helpful on other days! Given the route has so many seats on it, I am surprised that they do not have some availability. On the other hand, BA make a point of not having reward flights when they are wanted, so QF might have the same approach!

Last night BA kindly offered a routing from SYD to HKG to BNE to SIN to PER, four flights taking 42 hours. Not sure how the BA computer thinks that is a good answer.

QF is MUCH worse than BA for redeeming rewards points Aussies fly further and are seriously focussed on collecting points so when there are always loads of people waiting to book flights - friends down under often log on at midnight when the new tranche of seats goes on line to get some.....................

At the moment, British Airways are operating several G-MID_ (A320) aircraft at Gatwick. Is there a shortage of aircraft at their Gatwick base? What happened to the G-GAT_
fleet? Also I'm guessing they have come from Heathrow, so are they not needed there?

There is no shortage of aircraft. The plan for this summer is 26 based Airbus. 11 A319, 10 G-GATx aircraft, G-MEDK and 4 G-MIDx (all A320). There is a greater flying programme this summer. In addition 11 777 from May and 12 777 from November.

The wet lease from BACF was planned owing to maintenance on the Airbus Fleet in readiness for the Summer. Airlines do it all the time.
Always someone here trying to suggest some kind of problem when none exists.

Don't take it personally man
Let's be fair, the Airbus fleet has been in a state of some flux for some time, there's clearly a LHR/LGW airframe tug of war going on here IMHO.
Look at the list you supplied of airframes, they all have one thing in common. None were ordered new by BA, they're all ex BMI, BMED (so far so good as they have a BA heritage) and then latterly sourced from the open market via Wizz Air and TAM (!)
Even the G-VIIV-Y four class B777s don't have IFE to LHR standards.
I really wish BA would stop treating Gatters as the poor relation, there's a balance to be struck between ROI and differential passenger experience between your two main bases.

I understand Maintenance is following ground handling in being outsourced?
There's not much left to cut....

You are right, Skipness. The Maintenance at LGW is about to be outsourced.....its been a slow lingering death over the last few years. BA/IAG decide on who does the spannering mid summer with the axe falling at the end of the year on their incredibly loyal workforce.

A good solution for Gatwick, re the Airbus [shuffling A/C between LHR and LGW ] buy out Monarch this comes with the best Airbus engineering in the industry and first rate operations by the flight crews

BA will reduce the frequency of flights to GIG from W16/17. Flights will drop from daily to 5 x weekly from 31st October 2016

Nice to see mainline re-doing the regional GLA-SLZ route next winter. Seemed to carry good loads and should build on this years. The EDI-IBZ short lived regional attempt was obviously not a sign the experiment wasnt worth trying again. Wonder if theyd try anytging else ex GLA with airbus crews

I'd have though Brazil was a little far for a A320 series, non-stop. Where will they stop en route?

I imagine the honorable gentleman means Salzburg (SZG)?

Not only that but, as I said back in December:

Yes, it's good to see BA thinking outside the box. Their GLA-Salzburg route did almost as well in passenger numbers as Jet2's EDI-Salzburg service in March.

GLA-SZG (scheduled) 809
EDI-SZG (scheduled) 1323

GLA-SZG flights operated using a ex BD A319 which could seat a maximum of 136 (12C/128Y), Sometimes CE cabin may have been bigger. Giving a load factor of at least 75% in March.

The EDI-IBZ was unpopular in a big part due to it's flight timings. In summer BA's shorthaul operation works pretty hard, with little slack for something like the EDI-IBZ. As the only times an aircraft could operate the service was between the last shuttle of the night and the 1st of the morning.

The shorthaul flying operation reduces by quite a bit during the Winter season. BA decided to try a ski flight as they saw it could fit operating as a W pattern from LGW. It wouldn't surprise me if we see maybe Sunday GNB or INN flight added from GLA this year. With the aircraft operating LGW-GLA-GNB-GLA-LGW

Also maybe a LGW-EDI-GNB-EDI-LGW rotation.

Well, if people are going to use IATA or ICAO codes then it's as well to use the correct ones.

Looking at my keyboard, I can't see how SLZ would be a typo for SZG. If in doubt, use the airport / city name.
