So Jet2 holidays continues it's slow conquest of the regions. As it's all standard "bucket and spade" capacity it should sell and so deliver volume for BHX even though it is not really the type of traffic BHX now aspires to. A slug of capacity this big is going to hurt yields though both at BHX and EMA and possibly further afield so not good news for the incumbent carriers. It will be interesting to see what Jet2 do for the following Winter.

tubby linton, another negative post based on your experiences and predictions. Rather than clutter up these message boards with the same old repetitive moaning, maybe vent at the correct people who might be able to alleviate your hate of all things BHX and stop being a stuck record.

Wolverhampton Have you ever thought that the guy might have a great deal of knowledge about the problems at BHX I was based there many years ago and what he was saying was common then ,so not a lot of improvement

CSman, I believe he has a great deal of knowledge, that's why I can't understand the logic of moaning on here rather than being proactive and dealing with his issues via the correct avenues.

Jet2.com announces Birmingham base
Great analysis of the new Jet2 routes in the above anna.aero article.
It appears too that Birmingham's gain will be East Midlands's loss: Jet2 will reduce frequencies on some routes there it seems.

Looking at just one destination - Alicante - if Ryanair operate the same number of flights (10) as they are doing this summer, a total of 30 flights weekly. IMO that is not sustainable, even if the odd flight from EMA may be scrapped. Ridiculous!
With some routes being operated by up to five airlines something has got to give I'm afraid what with all the uncertainty of Brexit in the next few years - the passengers are not just there.

The EMA cuts only appear to be for the early part of the season before coming into full swing from 25th May 2017. There's still going to be the 7th aircraft and a number of new routes from EMA so still growing overall.
Jet2 - Overcapacity?
I am inclined to agree, with the plunge in Sterling, and frankly pretty dire projections with regard to where the pound is headed post Brexit (one "expert" has it potentially down below parity with the US dollar) 2017 may not be the greatest time to be chucking loads of seats into the Euro area destinations, but as has been said, with Egypt and Tunisia effectively off limits (from UK), and people scared off Turkey by the Syrian and refugee situation sunseekers have got to go somewhere - and these days those 2 weeks frying by a Mediterranean pool have become a necessity for many, rather than the luxury they used to be.
The move into BHX, on a pretty big scale, is obviously also attempting to test the water in the market further south. Given the right offer, Jet2 could well bring passengers from as far south as Milton Keynes to BHX. Luton must be becoming slot restricted at peak times, so addition of bucket and spade capacity there my prove problematic - so people from north of the M25 may find it easier / cheaper to travel north (if they realise there is life to the north!) to catch their holiday flights.

According to information on another forum, an airline which currently serves BHX (not Norwegian) will base two aircraft at BHX and two at MAN next summer. I'm guessing this airline also serves MAN, so that rules out Wizz.
My guess is Vueling as a MAN base from them has been rumoured for a while.

Rome and Palma have already been rumoured for next summer and with Spain winning the tourists at the moment the likes of Seville, Valencia, Bilbao and Santander could also be contenders.

I don't know if you all know but Vueling are having a lot of fleet shortages so I don't think they will be basing 4 planes in the UK. Wizz don't even go to Manchester so why would they want to base 2 there and 2 here at Birmingham when LTN has 2 based and is there biggest airport. The UK means higher running prices for the airline and this isn't there strategy.

A Ryanair acquisition of Monarch much more likely, for Gatwick slots, improved access at Manchester and BHX, pilots, an accelerated 737 delivery... And the UK AOC that Ryanair may now need.

Agreed Vueling have their a/c problems at the moment (Euro Atlantic 767 the other day), so whose left? BA Regional? Also now Jet2 have joined in the Greek and Spanish markets, surely they must be totally saturated.
