China Flights

The Birmingham Post is reporting that Beijing Capital Airlines have signed a deal with BHX to operate scheduled services to Beijing and Shanghai starting this summer.
Twice weekly departures.
Let's hope the Post is correct about scheduled!

BHX-Scheduled flights to China

Fantastic news scheduled flights Business class being sold too. Great for Birmingham and the wider west midlands, with our regions trade surplus with China local business will have access to many more opportunities.

Weekly to Beijing and weekly to Hangzhou won't be really attractive to businesses in the West Midlands. This has all the feel of inbound Chinese visitor market and any UK passengers will be a bonus.

BHX-Hangzhou

The only UK flight to this city too and yes that inbound tourism will come straight to the West Midlands now.

I agree with you, this reminds me of the JAT "scheduled" operations back in the 70s and 80s to Dubrovnik and Pula which were essentially charters (for Yugotours) but were schedules, so could be booked as flight only - I am showing my age!

However, there will be some demand from UK / China tourists, and also for business passengers, albeit, not those who are flying in, or out for a quick meeting and returning a couple of days later. Business people, for example, working an exhibition stand (at either end) might find a week return quite acceptable or doing a weeks trip visiting business clients.

It is truly amazing that a BHX schedule will start within months of a MAN schedule - it remains to be seen whether it continues beyond the end of summer, or is just seasonal.

Are they really scheduled? Airlineroute reports that they are on a charter basis.

BHX-Scheduled flights to China

They are loaded into GDS. Paul Kehoe BHX CEO states they are scheduled in his report to local press too. Charter flights don't get sold on worldwide travel portals they are sold by a tour operator. This is a great coup another new airline and a new destination for Birmingham Airport.

This has all the feel of sour grapes. Upset about having to share the thunder?

Well done BHX. I'll take weekly Chinese flights to 2 destinations any day of the week!

Capital Airlines is the leisure arm of the Hainan group. Their stated market position and ambition is
the hope of being the first-class China tourism service airline.
It's fantastic to see new services opening up to China though.

It's great that both cities are gaining scheduled services from China, so I'm not going to start scoring points. Everything that we outside of the favoured southeast can win is a definite bonus.

Mind you, I recall that Hong Kong is a "Special Administrative Region" of China so not sure it counts!! Although, it isn't a "sovereign state that is a member of the United Nations in it's own right"

ATNOTTS.

Great news re our Chinese flights but the times could be better.

Leaving Beijing at 3am and then out to Hangzhou at around midnight not the best.

I think the MAN -Hainan are better timings.

Was wondering, as Beijing Capital are a subsidiary of Hainan, would Hainan be able to influence our poorer timings to boost their own Manchester flights ?

Still a great start for BHX !
