Anyone know how the load factors are doing on the 380 EK service? Miles Hunt (The Wonderstuff) posted pics of himself on earlier this week on social media with three seats to himself and plenty of empty rows.

easyjet inter 2016/7 & VLM

The mystery of easyjet continues with another increase in Geneva - 15 flights a week starting from Friday 9 December 2016! Below is just a sample of one week in December and aircraft type might vary in January.

Monday 2 flights - 1 x EZY & 1 x EZS both 319's (was one flight last winter)
Tuesday 1 flights- 1 x EZY A319
Wednesday 2 flights - 1 x EZS & 1 x EZY both 319's (was one flight last winter)
Thursday 2 flights- 1 x EZS (A320) & 1 x EZY A319 (was 2 x A319 but only from Feb 16)
Friday 2 flights- 2 x EZY, 1 x A319 and 1 x A320 (was 2 x A319's)
Saturday 3 flights - All 320's. 2 x EZS & 1 x EZY (was 2 x A320's & 1 x A319)
Sunday 3 flights - All 319's, 2 x A319 & 1 x EZS (only 3 from Feb last winter)

Belfast the same as this winter with one A320 Sunday night but Saturday back to an A319, Three daily except once on a Saturday and two Tuesday.

Grenoble survives at once a week from 10/12

VLM

Shame about VLM Waterford but load factors were never great although no idea of yield but fares were always higher than flybe when they operated the route but of course they would be with a 28 seat capacity difference. Maybe if incentives are offered flybe might try again.

Flying out of Brum last night I noted that the forced walk through the duty free emporium has now become even more circuitous then previously! I would laugh it wasn't for the fact that it actually irks me greatly.

Same just about everywhere I guess. I'm surprised airports aren't offering a "fast track" avoiding this sort of nonsense for a fee - say £ 5.00. there'd be a fair few takers I reckon!

The duty free store is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.
The store owners and the airport company have a joint agreement where 'forcing passengers 'through the store and therefore encouraging them to buy products is beneficial to both parties.
I believe similar agreements are not unusual elsewhere in the UK,as the more the stores make in profits the more the airport take in rent or whatever the agreement is.Unfortunately not everyone likes or does the shopping side of airports but it is an important revenue maker for both parties and not something that is likely to go away soon.
What will be interesting is that if the UK votes to leave the EU,how is that going to affect duty free shopping in the future,as almost everyone will be able to buy liquor and tobacco at duty free prices, with the exception of those on domestic flights. Therefore returning to the good old days of pre 1999 when the EU abolition came into force.

I notice Gainjet 757 SX-RFA has been camped @ BHX recently, before that it spent a lot of time @ CVT, does anybody know why the change? I would have thought if ground time was necessary then CVT would be cheaper? Also, where is the aircraft officially based, it seems to spend a lot of time in the UK when sucking tarmac for any period of time.

Are you bhx airport management? As far as I'm concerned I'm at the airport to get a flight and not to embark into a high street shopping expedition. The airport can by all means have its DF shop and I'll even accept having to walk through the damn thing as long as I can do so in a straight line. But once they turn it into a winding mystery tour they are taking the pi$$.

This happens in the souk in Luxor

I wonder if we'll be back to the days of 200 fags and a bottle for a fiver

That (the 200 fags and bottle for a fiver) is pretty well what will happen if we are voted out of the EU.

Obviously something that neither airport managers nor the DF operators want us to know, as for the smokers and drinkers who stock up on the way back from their jollies in another EU country this would be represent a significant increase in their cost of living. Ask my wife!!

That isn't "operation fear" that's "operation fact".

Returning to the subject - EMA is exactly the same, and you even get put through the nonsense when you're flying domestic. (Edinburgh is still domestic isn't it?).

Just like Gibraltar to the UK - 200 very cheap cigarettes and a bottle of spirits as GiB plus the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not in the EU although GiB would like to be so you have been warned!

Having only passed through the departure lounge the other day, I believe this new extended 'tour' of duty free is only temporary. I think there is a refurb going on in duty free at the moment so hopefully it will revert back to a more direct routing like before. I must admit, I got a little disorientated at finding my way into the lounge and I'm a frequent flier at BHX. I wonder how many flights get delayed with late pax trying to find their way after being held up at security? It's like a maze!

On another subject, will there be any Chinese flights this year? I can't remember when last years were announced? Stratford upon Avon is a major destination for the Chinese and this year is a big one with the Bards 400yr anniversary attractions.

Re Chinese flights. I contacted the travel agent who jointly arranged the flights last 2 years, just last week. They have had no notification that they will be repeated this year, and are booking Chinese tourists instead onto the Hainan Manchester schedule flights instead.

I believe Beijing Capital were to apply for scheduled flights into BHX this year, so perhaps all is not yet lost.

From what I've read elsewhere quite a significant amount of seats are being sold on the new Hainan flight via tour operators - so you could argue that the charter flights have indeed matured into a scheduled service, just not from BHX!
