Mahan/Brussels Airlines/Avion Express/Thomson

Mahan

"33 Glideslope U/S" some things don't change then

Brussels Airlines

What some feared is going to happen - the SSJ is on its way. Well 4th April and then all May on SN2047, 2049 (night-stop) and 2037 occasionally. Not scheduled in June though and the 319 is still listed for September.

Avion Express

I thought this was scheduled twice a week for Thomas Cook but can only find a high-season Heraklion on a Wednesday now.

Thomson

Friday is now sorted with the second Thomson Corfu on an away based aircraft from Luton and a second based aircraft now has 6 sectors, this is getting even more like a blast from past with night flights. Only Saturday left with based times for Antalya still showing as to be confirmed.

Jet 2

New route to Funchal commencing 30 October 2017 x1 weekly

Monarch

Apparently the 10th based aircraft required for Valencia, Naples, Split etc will be an ex Pegasus 738.

There also appears to be terminal re-arrangement in progress to make way for Jet 2. Vueling, Norwegian, Wizz (and possibly Blue Air) all moving over to the Eurohub side and joining Flybe and Ryanair.

During the month ofFebruary, the airport handled 807,733 passengers – 83,000 more than the samemonth in 2016 and an 11.5 per cent increase.

Demand increased onboth long and short haul services with very significant growth again recordedon long-haul flights - up by a healthy 21 per cent compared to the same monthlast year. The number of passengers taking short haul flights grew bymore than nine percent year-on-year.

Announcing the newsat MIPIM 2017, Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham Airport, said:“To record a whole two years of monthly back-to-back record breaking figures isan excellent achievement and makes Birmingham one of the UK’s fastest growingairports.

“This unprecedenteddemand, particularly to long haul destinations, goes hand-in-hand with thebooming regional economy and means this airport is becoming increasinglyattractive for airlines to serve the Midlands market.

“Only last month webroke the news that one of the world’s most recognisable brands, BritishAirways, will be returning to Birmingham Airport from this summer, becoming thetenth new airline in the last year to launch.

“Our focus now is oncompleting the £100m package of development works for the summer season toprepare the operation for our busiest period ever, and later this year we willconsult on our Master Plan to scope out how the current site can be maximisedand the benefits of HS2 realised.”

Scheduled traffic inFebruary accounted for 91 per cent of the total, with charter passengers makingup the remaining nine per cent.

Scheduled trafficoverall grew by 11.7 per cent, with significant year-on-year growth to Madrid(+292.5%), Cape Verde (+103.2%), Berlin (+39.1%), Salzburg (+34.8%) andBudapest (+30.4%).

Charter trafficexperienced 7.5 per cent growth with significant expansion on services toHurghada (+169.4%), Malaga (+31.7%), Verona (+21.9%) and Alicante (+14.7%).

That's all well and good but the terminals need expansion sooner rather than later to handle the extra traffic. We don't want a repeat of last year where pax were left for ages trying to collect baggage.

Emirates/Wizz/BMIR/Ryanair

Emirates

EK41/2 seems not to be operating 8 May - 31 May and I can see this continuing throughout most of June.

Wizz

Warsaw back to 3 a week briefly 22/6-14/9 with a Thursday flight appearing

BMIR

They started their second Monday Graz and Thursday service in the last week

Ryanair

No change in the schedule for winter 2017/8 or associated press release. Frequencies and times are as this winter other than Palma which is not on sale.

Ryanair/easyjet/Eurowings

Not sure what the biggest shock of the day is Ryanair contracting or easyJet expanding Geneva.

Both very minor amounts with FR appearing to get rid of Palma for winter again and cutting Dublin frequencies.

However EasyJet starting Geneva on the 26 September probably outweighs this at the moment. Only three times a week at very early times on Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday lunchtime. All showing as easy Swiss aircraft at present and even if the schedule smacks as a gap filler at the GVA base it is very welcome, Just need the Belfast frequencies to be restored in September.

Eurowings Salzburg although not a new route it will be their 4th destination which is good.

Or indeed they may not.

The problem with these Indian stories is that they tend to be about as reliable as a forecast of an imminent cold spell, or heat wave in the Daily Express!!

Still, fingers crossed there's something in this one.

easyjet/Thomas Cook

easyjet

A reasonable result for next winter with Geneva starting in September before going back to the same frequency as this winter.

Belfast is also the same from November onwards and Grenoble returns.

Thomas Cook

Seems to be a couple of new destinations but a bit of a mess as the booking engine doesn't match the press release but Girona, Preveza and Thessaloniki look to be on the cards with Hurghada doubled but Naples showing on TOM.

Summer 2017 update

Lipican Aer are showing 3 x weekly to Waterford from May 2017 ??

Alba Star are showing 2 x weekly Palma during main holiday season

Evelop have just one Palma A320 per week with a very short Saturday season during the main holiday weeks for Thomas Cook, compared to 3 in s16

Freebird are showing Antalya charters for Thomson on Tue & Sat

Summer 2017 will be the first season where BHX Airport will be redesignated from Level 2 to Level 3 coordination. As a result of this, a number of schedules which had previously operated in the peak periods have been adjusted and there has been significant changes to terminal passenger throughput profiles.
Growth in both BHX based aircraft and in away based airlines operating "slot 2" flights through BHX, has seen increased pressure put on the lunchtime and early afternoon scheduling limits compared to previous years.

As a result a number of Ryanair flights have been given new times for summer 2017, some am flights have been swapped with pm flights and some early departures have been given new times up to 2 hours later to avoid congestion
