Finnair

Heard on another forum that Helsinki will be starting from March next year with a daily E190 flight. The aircraft will probably be freed up by the upgrade of the Manchester morning flight to an A319 which is due to happen around the same time.

Delta

Atlanta is apparently all but a done deal with the aircraft being either a 763 or 764. Just got to wait for an official announcement.

Easy

As fat as I know Easyjet have no plans for BHX or the wider Midlands area, they have always said that there are no decent yields from the Midlands.
I think they have now missed the boat at BHX with Norwegian Vuelling etc moving in.
I think BHX is more likely to see a Jet2 base than a Easyjet one.

I'm all up for competition but potentially these routes will be at the detriment of another carrier - I'm thinking Monarch for example. Monarch have been relatively loyal to BHX and it's a shame Jet2 couldn't come in with new offerings to those already provided (some by Ryanair, Monarch and Norweigan already)

Jet2

Good timings on GRO, a darn site better than a 2 hour slog to Bristol. And launch fares are cheaper as well.
I wonder whether FR will reinstate GRO flights from BHX?

The choice of destinations is aligned with the Jet2Holidays programme. That is the driver here. The airline will fly to destinations where Jet2Holidays sell strongly. They won't care which other carriers serve the routes.

Prices dont seem too bad for Jet2. Looking for next June/July and with bags returns are from £200 to TFS and £180 for PMI. Not bad in my opinion, especially with their 22kg allowance.

Might bring even more price competition to a market where due to the Egyptian and Turkish tragedies the Airlines are intent on making a profit out of it.

A good news story for the airport. Putting them on the South terminal sounds a little daft however, given the amount of congestion that is already there. I hope the airport infrastructure can cope with another 100+ flights per week.

I very much doubt it Occam. Imagine the scene of a crew security checkpoint on a busy saturday afternoon, and only one lane is open because there are not enough staff. You finally get to your aircraft twenty five minutes later hot and sweaty because the aircon in the terminal is turned off ,to find it is on one of the stands that doesn't have fegp and the PRM from the inbound flight are still onboard .OCS have not turned up as they are overwhelmed with the PRM on the EK A380. As you take your seat in the flightdeck you can take comfort that all those Ontario teachers are enjoying their pension.

Great to see all these new routes and airlines from BHX. Good for passengers and good for the local economy.

Re Jet 2 - As Cloud 1 said I just hope all the extra seats for the holiday destinations is not short term over capacity that will result in one airline loosing out in the long term (thus meaning no net increase in jobs and capacity).

Brave move by Jet 2 in the current climate however they are probably in a better position to offer relative cheaper prices when going on holiday just got more expensive, so could be a master stroke.

Be interesting to see how it plays out - BHX -any chance of an all year round Canadian route?

With some routes being operated by up to five airlines something has got to give I'm afraid what with all the uncertainty of Brexit in the next few years - the passengers are not just there.
