111KAB Kim Brittain is always plugging Capa when he is not posting on other forums (MSE)on how passengers can claim Eu261. I don't think that he has ever posted anyrhing positive about an airline.

The changing EWG operations have some implications for the Lufthansa Munich service.

The MUC-BHX flights were upgraded from E190s to Airbus's at the start of the year, but loads haven't been brilliant in the past few weeks and E190s have been re-introduced on an ad hoc basis. However the E190s are soon to go to Austrian and the Eurowings CRJ's are already being transferred to Cityline to replace them, but as of yet have not been painted in Lufthansa colours. If loads on MUC don't pick up by next year there is a chance of Cityline using the ex-Eurowings CRJ's on some flights, which would give them the distinction of having flown to BHX under four different operators (Lufthansa Regional, Germanwings, Eurowings and Lufthansa Cityline) and not once changing their livery!

jfy1999, thank you for your reply concerning MUC ops. I take it then that the answer is that the equipment is not foreseen to change on the BHX route yet?

As LandingConfig said, DUS is showing as A320 in October, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did revert to the CRJ in November as that's traditionally one of the quietest months of the year. DUS, HAM and MUC will switch to all Airbus ops for good when EWG and Cityline have phased out their CRJ's and E190s respectively, the process should be finished sometime in 2017.

Thanks again. Yes indeed, checking seat plans again, October is the Airbus and then both November and December revert back to the CRJ. I shall be sad to see their CRJs go.

Dusseldorf & Munich

Hotel Tango

Sometimes the Lufthansa Group just have a default aircraft in their booking engine when it is so far in advance although you would hope that would not be the case for Eurowings if they are selling specific seats. Frankfurt for instance in October in general is set as LH952 A319, LH954 A320, LH956 A321 and LH958 A320 but winter is back to last years LH952 A321, and A320's the rest.

I would imagine that DUS in winter has yet to be updated but I would not be surprised to see it go two daily.

jfy1999

The change back to the 195 was rather late on some of the Munich services but to fair the 195 holds 122 and the 319 138 which is hardly much difference.

If you look at the figures since last summer they show a route on the up.

November 14294 (down 500) but an average on 99 pax per flight. Strikes I believe caused cancellations with 15 fewer rotations

December 14403 up 2% at an average of 97

January 15274 up 10%

February 16725 up 14.4% at an average of 101 (extra day of course)

Why would an airline averaging 100 pax per flight and 70% plus load factors put a 90 seat aircraft on the route? They would have to be pretty certain that they can either add an extra rotation with the 90 seat aircraft or make more money on another route with the 319.

Do we know if all the 195's are leaving for Austrian as I thought a small sub-fleet would be retained at Munich (around 6 or 8).

Thanks Pete for the more detailed analysis. It looks like Cityline will in fact keep all their nine E190s as things stand and transfer 17 out of their 24 E195s to Austrian. I don't think Cityline will actually send any of the ex-Eurowings CRJ's here, I just mentioned it as a possibility for sentimental reasons.

Looking at a couple of random dates on Seatguru it would seem that the E195 is still the default aircraft for MUC.

At present the DUS (November) seat plans indicate a high density A320 on the morning rotation but still the CRJ-900 on the mid afternoon and evening rotations. Perhaps it will be a gradual changeover.

I was using a GDS site not the website but you are right EW1334/5 seems to change 1/2/17 at the moment - in the week anyway.

BHX up 13.6% in March 2016

March’s passenger figures have produced yet another month of outstanding growth for Birmingham Airport. Up by almost 100,000 passengers compared to the same month last year, the airport has recorded 13.6% year-on-year growth and is celebrating thirteen months of consecutive record breaking growth.

In total, 830,544 passengers travelled through the airport last month, significantly more than the 731,357 passengers that travelled through for the same month last year.

Long-haul routes again experienced the greatest increase in demand with a strong 22.5% passenger growth since last year, with particular growth seen on scheduled services to North America (+61.3%) and the Middle East (+34.6%).

March also saw the airport record a total of 10,439,606 passengers handled at the airport over the last rolling 12 month period, 5.4% more than at the end of the same period last year and equating to over half a million more passengers.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham Airport, said: “This rolling 12 month period has been our best ever and we ended it with a very significant and exciting March. We welcomed Iberia Express, Blue Air, Qatar and the fantastic Emirates A380 to the airport - all of which we are looking forward to supporting throughout the summer season.

“Norwegian celebrated its first anniversary at the airport in March and we also received the news that Ryanair will be increasing its winter 2016 schedule by 45%. This was in addition to a host of new routes starting with our established carriers.

“These new airlines and routes are expected to bring a lot more people to our airport as travellers take advantage of the expanding choice available from Birmingham. We look forward to welcoming these new customers and celebrating the growth this will bring.”

Scheduled traffic continues to be very significant for the month of March, accounting for over 91% of the total. This sector saw a 16.7% increase, with significant year-on-year passenger growth to Barcelona (+234%), Milan (+95.7%), Malaga (+62%), Dubai (+34.3%), and Istanbul (+19.2%).

Charter traffic made up 9% of the total March figure, which saw growth to Salzburg (+155.1%), Fuerteventura (+134.3%), Cancun (+56.7%), Gran Canaria (+47.6%) and Montego Bay (+24.6%).
