El Al

As mentioned earlier in this thread, looks like EL Al are increasing from 11 flights a week to 17. Three rotations on some days

Not a great pic thanks to today's weather, but the framework for Signature's new hangar is getting there......

Easy 2324 just diverted to STN, looks like we are getting a few diversions in from STN now.
Nice pic of the signature hangar, good to see things are moving on.
El AL for next summer down as two 737-800 and a 767 on most days in July.
This route has just gone from strength to strength .

How much of El Al's growth at Luton is growth of the O&D London-Tel Aviv market, and how much is passengers preferring Luton instead of Heathrow ? WHat proportion of LHR-TLV passengers start/end their journeys in London compared to onward connections ?

Yes, I know the usual arguments about Heathrow being a major hub, but this route is unusual in that its primary customer base is centred around NW London not central London and, for geopolitical reasons, El Al is not a member of any of the 3 airline alliances and does not have dozens of codeshare partners.

I'm wondering how worthwhile those Heathrow slots really are to El Al and whether a lease of the LHR slots for a few years to another airline to bring in some more cash might be a possibility while Luton is grown further...

Yeah it's an interesting thought.
First Tarom , if Buster is correct , leasing out their slot to Iasi and now El AL having , what looks like, the same capacity into LTN as LHR.
Wonder how many airlines not part of an alliance could consider a transfer of flights to LTN or STN and keep the slots but just lease them out for a contracted time!!

BBC News website now reporting that as mentioned above on here earlier that an Easyjet aircraft inbound from Hamburg to London Luton has been diverted to London Stansted after security alert.

I can't make out the location of the new Signature hangar - I had thought it was replacing the two adjoined ex-McAlpine hangars in front of the Holiday Inn.

Signature's new offices and terminal will indeed be built on the site of their old FBO but their hangers will be by the cargo apron.

No it is being built next to it. I have to say that it is starting to dominate the wigmore skyline as it is so tall.
