That's utterly ridiculous if MAN has been refusing diversions tonight. The wind in the South is quite awful tonight. If LHR bound plane is forced to divert & LGW isn't an option, surely MAN as the UK's 3rd biggest airport should be set up to help out; why are they refusing?

DUB is starting to take a few LHR diversions. I was wondering why they weren't going MAN/EMA/NCL/BHX?

Gatwick EI flights are coming home too. I assume for operational reasons they would rather just have them in Dublin than in various diversion airports all over the U.K. Although they do base aircraft in Heathrow and Gatwick overnight so Flights tomorrow are bound to be effected

Fair play to them for putting enough fuel in the tanks for 2 approaches, alot of holding and a return to ADEP

One TP who went elsewhere cannot depart as the runway is closed! Perhaps the MAN way is better as I don't imagine you get brownie points for accepting if you are unable to let them depart.

There's a big difference between taking too many aircraft and only taking emergencies (which you are legally bound to take anyway). Imagine how all those folks on AAL142 feel right now having to spend the night in Dublin instead of anywhere in the U.K.

VS MAN-LHR returning too.
Seems really painful, rather than splash and dash from one from LGW/STN/LTN/SEN. I would not be impressed if I was a passenger.

MANCHESTER - 9

It all didn't add up last night, started with the VS26 telling LHR that he would go to Man, he was told that Man was not taking any diverts, understandably with no airports south of BHX open the pilot questioned this, was told again MAN not available. The CX38 was next, held for an hour, missed approach, "we would like to divert to MAN", again the controller said nope sorry, the problem we believe is lack of wide body stands, when at 5000 ft and in the pattern for STN was told MAN was now available ?? Record time to build a 747-800 capable stand !! Lots more aircraft asking for MAN all told nope. Then we started to accept narrow bodied aircraft, cue some BA. The BA178 pleaded and pleaded with MAN to accept him but told no available stands, off he went to NCL. Then the AA142 stated he was going to MAN, no stands again was the answer, after a couple of minutes and no doubt a call to company a stand was found !!! Amazing what you find when you look !! En route to MAN he was told they had a stand but no handling and it could be a while, no worries was the comeback, were still coming, then when he was in the decent the excuse book came out again and he was told their was now no fuel for him !!!, a rather pissed of pilot then opted for Prestwick but was refused due lack of fire cover, so went to Dublin instead, sounded pretty annoyed.

Whilst all this was going on, two wide boddies declared an emergency and came in, think they are parked in the Styal road long stay.

So as you can see, no stands, found stands, no handling, no fuel....what's shambles.

If an aircraft crew announce an emergency which most did late last night they cannot be turned away, problem was lack of widebody stands especially as A346 can only park on a very small number of stands likewise B748.

But if their were no stands how did they accept the AA142 ?? In order to accept it their must have been a stand, which makes the no stand Info void ??

Just moving away temporarily from "DIVgate".

Does anybody understand the implications of this ?

MAG have sold bonds raising finance to tune of £450M !

Manchester Airport Group, less geared than Heathrow, sells bond | Euroweek.com

Handling agent managers not the prolls need sacking at Manchester .
As for stand availability sorry its a right cop out and utter rubbish.

Late friday in bloody February block a taxiway /double park smaller close in behind the J2 formation flying team if needs be but - HELP !

Make a bit of money for MAG Group and your companies !

MAG Group needs to hold a crisis meeting with the handlers and create a Charter on service standards and delivery because right now the cost cutting has gone too far .

Manchester is a 20+ million airport with 170,000 transport movements - not a tinpot shed and strip of concrete - Busy as many European capitals - Be professional or loose trade simples !

Spanners I think you might now be right re Cathay -Service of the Freight business (A long standing customer !) can hardly recommend itself to passenger operations in future.

CX38 should have been accepted automatically there are NO EXCUSES for this flight refusal .

Its a complete farce now !

Sam in another place might come out during the day to defend the policy however the creditability of the AIRPORT is at stake now imho

I don't know the specifics of the bond issue but I think you will find that these funds are part of a wider refinancing of MAG's borrowings. It is quite normal that when a company acquires a new asset (eg MAG buying Stansted) the immediate source of funds - such as short-term bank borrowings - are replaced fairly quickly with a longer-term facility. A bond issue - which basically fixes the interest rate for a longish period - is a common way of doing this.

Nothing to get excited about.

Edit - see below

MAG lands in the bond market
Manchester Airport Group inaugurated its new £5bn debt programme with a 20-year bond issue, refinancing half of the term loan it used during its acquisition of London Stansted airport last year. This deal establishes it in the capital markets, and gives it the flexibility of funding options other UK corporates enjoy.
