Both QFA001/002 and QFA009/010 were used at different stages of QANTAS' tenure ex-MAN.

QF flight numbers

I think you're right, I just remember on 1st April 1983 when 'Qannas Noine' checked in with Manchester Approach. Although the big kangaroos are now almost extinct in Europe, that was a pivotal moment in MAN's march toward the long-haul status it now enjoys.

Also remember good ol' BA started the very first regular service to Hong Kong with a Tristar 250 routing Munich/Dubai/Bangkok/Hong Kong many moons ago.
1985 BA021/22 operated

All that said I give up on the semantic game

I think the good news story is overwhelming and have booked today for March next year !

As for Singapore they are big and ugly enough to look after themselves !

A Qantas Tale

In the mid to late 80's, I had to take a short notice trip to Australia. The Qantas flight from Manchester was allegedly full in Business Class so I was routed via LHR.
At LHR the flight number on my ticket did not appear on the departures Board but I eventually found a check-in desk displaying my flight number.
I asked at check-in as to why the flight number was not displayed on the Departure Screens and was told that it was a special 'additional' flight. It was the delivery flight of the second Qantas B744 which had arrived earlier that day from Boeing via a low level fly past at RR's Derby plant.

The flight was superb with only two paying passengers in Business Class and not much more that two dozen in economy. It was obvious that the flight was being used as a Training or a Crew familiarisation flight as the number of pilots on the upper deck vastly outnumbered passengers.

My return flight to the UK was on QF1 (referred to as their Flagship Flight) from SYD to LHR via BKK.

They've gone to the bond market and raised a further £360 million. However, the Evening News says in the story that passenger numbers in March were 1.43 million, slightly down on last year. Reckon it's a drop of between 1.24% and 2.2%.

With regards to AA ending CLT 2 weeks early, seems its a capacity adjustment at the CLT end rather than a MAN issue. They are ending the LIS and BRU routes middle of August rather than end of Sept and reducing both of those routes to 4 weekly.

Well they're not exclusive really, It would appear American will be encouraging passengers to connect over the non CLT hubs which does not bode well for the position of long haul from NC in the medium term.

Re CLT so if successful and momentum built would they add a second Chicago to retain the traffic Or does it simply wither away ?

Its as if you need to do business may - sep if you wish to trade with the US.

Surely consolidate traffic over ORD and upguage to a B772 would be the ideal. The aircraft are having First removed so they would be in line with the MAN offering with a decent uplift in capacity.

Haven't been to the airport since early January, a few questions on WIP that had or is going on.
* is 23R overnight work complete?
* what current taxiway works are INP?
* as the security in T3 has been extended is there any plan to extend immigration and baggage claim?
* and finally, how is T3 coping airside and landside in the mornings with the US flight?

These NOTAMs highlight the WIP:

NOTAM-MANCHESTER-EGCC

Re T3 in am. T3 multistorey ok. Security fine. Costa Coffee fine.

I've seen a lot busier and more snaking queues when the 0830 LGW flight was boarding!! (Why did they cancel this flight? )

For the last few months the drive time show on Real Radio Yorkshire has been sponsored by Manchester Airport with Singapore Air, so the chorus has been singing over here for some time.

Excellent news! Hallelujah Chorus at full volume in my kitchen (good job the neighbours are out!). Hopefully, MAG will enthusiastically promote BOTH of our direct scheduled services to the Far East on an equal footing going forward. And do their homework on future press releases.

I wonder if they've bought SIA that giant Easter Egg?

An interesting CAPA report and analysis on the new CX service found via a.net.

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...mirates-163180

I can never do the links properly - apologies if it doesn't work.

Some interesting breakdown of the MAN-HK traffic for 2013, indicating 38% was with Emirates and 19% via LHR with BA/CX

There is also conjecture about SQ's possible response and comment on the lack of high yielding pax compared to LHR.

Excellent CAPA link Mr MANFOD you beat me to the chase by an hour

(Check your PMs)

Could I also refer viewers to this

https://centreforaviation.com/analys...flights-159135

"Birmingham Airport’s marketing management is convinced that there is strong demand at both ends of the route, although it is anticipated that the balance will tip in favour of Chinese tourists who are keen to experience Britain’s scenery and historical culture, much of which is more easily accessible from Birmingham than from London, as well as retail shopping opportunities."

Manchester provides a level of access which is is stratospheric in terms of scenery, popular/historical culture, retail, and sport.

BHX marketing have clearly provided what to me is a fairly obvious template in linking relative agencies together, it is up to MAG to do likewise but on a tenfold basis !

There seems to be a perception that new scheduled services by Cathay are based on outbound travel the inbound market is by comparison is enormous !
