Flybe figures don't look too bad either as a start. Certainly don't bear out what Timmy and DC said above. Mind you people keep going on about EZY but a lot were suspicious from the start when no winter schedule appeared. They weren't interested in stopping so never really tried. Asking around at the time EZY at DSA was one of South Yorkshire's best kept secrets!

Decent start for the Flybe flights. Out of the numbers available they show as follows on a 118 seat aircraft.

Paris CDG - 70 per flight
Amsterdam - 90 per flight
Berlin - 88 per flight
Faro - 80 per flight
Jersey - 73 per flight
Newquay - 45 per flight

Alicante is mixed in with Thomson figures but is near 100%.

Surely BEE won't be operating flights to NQY from both DSA and LBA come the end of October.

Their online timetable shows DSA flights ending 29/10 and LBA flights (with the funding to support them) starting the day before. One imagines the LBA flights will also be on a an easier to fill Dash.

After its winter start I'd expect Dusseldorf to extend into summer replacing Newquay. Plus increases on sun routes with the slack.

NQY is a funny old market tbh
Wouldn't say it won't be back next year but perhaps it would operate on a DH8 on a W from another base like LPL will and STN down with a BHX based DH8

MAN & LBA are proven markets for NQY.

Makes a lot of sense really. As far as April's (one week) figures are concerned there won't have been many coming BACK yet, and if they expect a drop off in the winter then best cut any losses by shifting the route to a subsidised one.

Most of the routes can be operated using DH4 equipment - if the E195 was replaced by a the smaller aircraft, provided the yield was there, the routes, based on the one week numbers quoted would be fine.

Question is whether the purpose of the Doncaster base is to keep the E195s flying, or to grow a new market.

Must be the 4th time this route has been cut from DSA.

I don't see anyone picking it up in a hurry.

Will be interesting to see if FlyBe stick around after their leases expire.

Dublin

But of a surprise given it survived the winter and the recent introduction of the Saturday rotation. Although I have used the route three times at different points of the year and the loads were negligible each time. IMO I still think it boils down to route awareness. Hopefully Flybe will look at it or maybe a mix throughout the week of DUB/BHD.

I believe the loads were above 80%.

The FlyBe routes have been heavily advertised. Will be interesting to see figures.

DSA will always struggle, all it ever was was a playground for Thomson
It never worked and the people who knew this would happen were laughed at at the time

Maybe it's a shared playground, because Wizz seem to be doing ok. At least DSA had the good sense to look after carriers which presumably generate income (ie TOM). As for Flybe, we shall just have to see.

2016 could well be the best year in DSA's history, as far as passenger numbers go.

Wizz is an interesting one, it seems to be the migrant workers airline of choice. Personally I feel the future success of the airline from DSA is very much dependent on the referendum vote.

The great thing is that some of these passengers are on sustainable flights that are making oodles of money! I am not sure which though.

I remember when Teesside was near a million passengers. Prestwick too. In the end it comes down to catchment area population or every little town would have its own airport to take you to the Costas.

Fair point if you define Sheffield City Region (pop. 1.8 million) as a little town

FlyBe have replaced the Dublin route elsewhere but nothing confirmed for DSA yet. Would be a push to fit it into their current schedule.

How much longer do they have on the lease for the 195s?

Timmy W your constant attempts to stir up negativity re Doncaster Sheffield airport are rather tiresome. Constant little digs. Try to move on eh?
