I saw a tweet from a Flightglobal reporter yesterday:
but the link seems to be behind a paywall. Is this news true? It'd be a real shame if so.

Certainly looks like it, the Valley to Cardiff flights are being operated by a North Flying Metroliner this week. Anyone have any idea what has happened?

Just going back to Frankfurt, it could do well. Jet2 with Dusseldorf ex Leeds seems to do well, but their Hamburg didnt.
Going back in time to when Sheffield City was open, the Amsterdam flights did well, but did they also talk about a direct German flight?

Apologies if this has been said before or I'm stating the obvious, but BMI Regional operating Doncaster-Frankfurt would be for very different reasons to Jet2 flying Leeds-Doncaster.
A Doncaster-Frankfurt route would likely be a 37-seat or 49-seat aircraft (i.e. high costs per passenger) with a Lufthansa codeshare, to allow passengers from Doncaster to fly anywhere in the world on a single ticket via a 1-stop change in Frankfurt. BMI Regional do something similiar from other airports in Sweden, Belgium and Switzerland. Flights will likely be aimed more at business-centric passengers who value a high level of customer service / product quality. A simple DSA-FRA ticket is unlikely to be very cheap.
Jet2 flying Leeds-Dusseldorf is a 148-seat aircraft is about flying passengers point-to-point (i.e. no onward connections) between the UK and Germany. The area around Dusseldorf has a much higher population compared to the area around Frankfurt. With a large aircraft, costs per passenger are much lower and many more of the passengers are likely to be travelling for leisure purposes and more price conscious.

bmi regional also operates BRS-FRA up to 3 x daily and BRS-MUC up to 2 x daily as LH code shares and, as you say, the sector fares to/from FRA and MUC for someone just flying point to point can be expensive.
When bmir obtained the code shares the passenger figures on the BRS routes improved noticeably, so a similar thing for DSA would be extremely helpful.

Flybe
Yorkshire Post carries this story on their website
"Doncaster Sheffield Airport today announced that Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, will base two Embraer Jet aircraft at the airport with services starting from the end of March 2016."
Major aviation boost for Yorkshire as Flybe signs deal with Doncaster Sheffield Airport - Yorkshire Post
There could be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Excellent news
One article states routes to two international hubs with a mix of business and leisure destinations culminating in an extra 44 flights a week.
Possibly? Amsterdam and Paris, Belfast, Munich, Dusseldorf, Chambery/Geneva, Milan and the existing Jersey?

Fantastic news, I'd expect to se BHD and AMS in the mix, and likely some sunshine routes as DSA has no scheduled seat only capacity to the sun spots of PMI, ALC, FAO, TFS etc … TFS bit far maybe but I would think a PMI and and ALC would do exceptionally well from DSA

Appologies if this has been mentioned.
