It's a much needed sheltered queuing area pre immigration, as since the place opened passengers have been forced to wait outside.

DSA Arrivals Extension & Lounge

A quick look on DMBC planning portal, plans show sheltered access extension 43m x 7m built out towards the ramp & access into new arrivals lounge layout to the right of existing with two larger carousels. The existing arrivals route and carousels look to remain also.

Look to be planning for bigger things when the FARRS link road opens 2016 giving more direct access from A1/M18

G-FORZ, I can't see a plan in there for any new arrivals rejigging other than the sheltered entrance. Are you sure you're not mistaking the 'new' carousels for the existing outbound hold luggage security screening and loading area?

I don't believe this is an extension plan in anticipation of large step growth, more to improve the existing customer experience..

Pug, yes I had misread the plan not realising the existing functions of outbound luggage security and loading in that area to right of customs on arrival. Oh well wishful growth aspiration put on bold then.

The airport have submitted plans to Doncaster council to extend the terminal building. Very surprising as a lot of the terminal is mothballed because it isn't currently in use, wonder why they are needing the extra space........?
Maybe converting the whole place in to a cargo terminal?

Seek and you will find, the Doncaster planning portal has this http://pad.doncaster.gov.uk/AnitePub...s/00634069.pdf
It is just to keep travellers dry while they wait at arrivals, before many had to wait outside I believe.
From 15/00025/FUL | Erection of extension to front of airport terminal (43.28m x 7.74m overall) | Doncaster Robin Hood Airport First Avenue Auckley Doncaster DN9 3RH
It shows as granted.

Thomson are operating a DSA-MBJ rotation this month on the 10th/24th in partnership with Thomson Cruises, presumably the aircraft is arriving the day before.

Announcement must be soon if it is for this summer. Good news if true, and hopefully they will stick around longer than last time.
