The real deal.

Now we just need a fish shop that sells decent mushy peas and we'll be over 3 million in no time.

If the new routes are successful and last year's trend continues we could see over 1m pax this year. Not bad for an airport some have previously described as a basket case.

With all these new routes being announced why can't I book a through flight to the USA via AMS or CDG?

FARRRS M18 link road is to open next Monday afternoon - within plenty of time of the Flybe base starting.

Good news about the Link Road.

Flybe has code shares with Air France and KLM so I'd have thought the booking of onward flights would be possible in the future. You can book to the US via Dublin with Aer Lingus

Devil

No logic ie time / cost when there are actual real airports to the south or west of Doncaster. Can use the link road for easy access to all of them.

Really, it depends where you live and where you want to go. If you live in Sheffield / Linconshire / S Yorks and want to travel to eg Amsterdam, Brussels, Alicante or Dublin, DSA is now your fastest option if you are driving or getting a lift to the airport. The security queues at DSA are always manageable unlike eg Manchester, where it only takes a few late arrivals to create a 30-minute bottleneck at passport control (as I experienced last week).

I don't understand your statement that travelers can use the new link road to access "actual real airports". Care to explain?

Link road to the delays!

I think he means the ones where the Link road would get you to the delays quicker. :-) Like MAN ... you could knock a few minutes off and that'd be a big help in getting you stuck at Tintwhistle a little faster, or stuck on the M62 anywhere between junction 26 and the Manchester roadworks!

And it'd certainly help to get quicker to the semi-permanent blockage on the M1 south bound caused by the lemmings throwing themselves on to it from the Chesterfield area with little thought that really when entering the m-way you have to understand that there are other people already on it!

Mind you, anyone who thinks the link road will help thousands get to other airports hasn't got much of a clue about the area!

You can currently book code shares from DSA to GVA and LYS (second carrier Air France) with Flybe so I guess its developing.

Link road is now open. I wonder if the 20-25 mins to Sheffield city centre claim is actually true?

From what is being said by people heading home from work in Sheffield tonight and my own daughter who has just come back from Meadowhall it would appear to be!

Just driven the new link road and it knocks off loads of time from the Sheffield direction, finally a fast link from the M18/M1 to DSA and no more driving through Bawtry, Tickhill and Maltby!

You wouldn't know from the DSA web site, still got static pages "work has started on link road", getting to airport has not been updated to use the Great Yorkshire Way from Junction 3 M18. You would think Peel would show more interest and try and push the 25 min to Sheffield, 40 min to Wakefield and East Leeds. They're saying The Great Yorkshire Way brings an extra 1M people into catchment, but they are not spelling out that anyone in Yorkshire, North Notts, North Derbyshire (East of Pennines) and South or East of Leeds can now get to DSA using surface transport quicker than most other regional airports (HUY obviously quicker for Far East Yorkshire). Marketing is a joke.

Gold for everybody!

Just remember, it isn't just for the airport. There are a lot of other beneficiaries than airport users.

They do have big banner ads up at Sheffield station advertising the new FlyBe flights, but I resume they were paid for by FlyBe and not the airport. I agree it looks bad that there is still no press release on the DSA website about the opening of the link road. It has been covered by all local and regional media. DSA did put a brief announcement on their FB and Twitter.

IMO the awareness campaign should be a lot bigger
