Colin Lewis named director of marketing at bmi regional | The Drum

New Marketing Director at bmi regional.

I thought they already had a marketing manager / director?
Interesting comments in the article about improving the digital content.

Hopefully thats an indication of big things for the website.

Website improvement

The website now displays prices for +/- 3days around the intended booking date, a great (& much needed) improvement to the site.

Re BMIR most punctual airline,

I think it has to be said that they operate a very small fleet and some of the planes are not fully utilized each day.

Therefore with this in mind and the fairly close routes they operate surely there is no reason to have a poor aircraft punctuality.

How can you compare that with much bigger airlines like British Airways, Easy Jet etc, flying high density into congested major airports, with some of the routes 3 hrs plus away ?

Think there should be a category comparing like for like , otherwise its meaningless.

I agree with your point Nigel, but even against say Eastern or Flybe they would still come out on top and lets face it given their loads and pax profile, little hold luggage and perhaps 25 pax per flight average, then its not difficult to meet the turnaround times, but they are very punctual but yes meaningless for the most part.

Aren't these sorts of reports aimed at passengers, and from their point of view, does it matter how difficult it is for the airline to achieve?

Surely they just want to know who is most likely to do what they say they are going to do? How difficult it is for the airline isn't really a consideration.

Exactly

This debate has been going on for years!

I remember well a couple of years ago that air southwest publicised that they were most punctual airline at LGW, great, they only operated 4 rotations a day, but it was good marketing, and it was true !!!

cornishsimon & SWBKCB

You are both correct of course in that it is aimed at customers, but at the same time i doubt few if any customer make an informed choice on who they will travel with based on this info, bmir is a niche player for the most competing only against Flybe & Eastern and their turboprop fleets are hardly the byword in dispatch reliability. The ERJ has proven to be a very reliable aircraft and bmir know the aircraft well, but its costs per seat kilometre are very high, ditto seats per landing fee keeps it away from the larger high yield airports in the UK at least, but the new management seem to be doing a good job and winning some good 3rd party work.

Just curious, I'm flying out of MAN a lot at the moment and there are always 2 EMB remotely parked, never seen them used yet! Standby or day-stoppers?!?

EMA - FRA

Looks like the route has been dropped; not bookable after the end of the year! BRU appears to remain at two per day.
The loss of a code share and the reduction to one mid-day flight per day, which is of little use to anyone on a business oriented route, has certainly had a devastating effect on pax numbers.

This is another blow to EMA's attempts to attract more business pax and I am afraid to say, so far the new bmi regional has not been very good news for the airport!

I noticed a Bmi flight in the Faroes today from Abz. It was on the Vagar arrivals board.
Was this a one off or the first of hopefully more prospective new airlines now its runway is long enough and a new terminal being built?

Aberdeen to Kristiansund

Aberdeen to Kristiansund route started 28/08/13

Any indication of the first flights success / pax numbers?

All seems to have gone pretty quiet at regional.

LYS

This was reported a while ago and no one is surprised, BE seem to be doing very well on BHX-LYS and have the advantage that AF codeshares with them. BHX-LYS does not need two carriers competing, one had to give.

Question is will BM launch a new route from BHX Mon, Fri and Sun to replace LYS, leave the aircraft sitting on the ground instead or use it for another route from another airport?

OK I'm no Route Expert

BHX: Now about Vienna or Helsinki as specialist business routes: Vienna diamonds and Tourists Helsinki Specialist Engineering or connecting passengers to the far East or Asia. - a specialist customer base but has anyone analysed the traffic patterns ? - A specialist clientèle but just may be practical.

Sorry guess work from CAT III

BHX

CATIII-NDB

I agree Vienna should be in their top five if they intend to fill the gap left by Lyon. Remember Lyon has been off sale for nearly 2 months (another piece of speedy action from airlineroute.net) and you would have thought a new route for winter would have been announced by now.

I still think Geneva is worth a shot, as easy only operate for 4 months and the other one of course, which has been mentioned on the BHX thread - Oslo.

BSL, BRE, NUE & CGN have also been touted but out of those I could only see BSL but still fairly long odds.

The 145 could reach MAD (BACON) but HEL?

I still can't believe flybe have not picked that one up with their connections in that area.
