Airbus contract
Bristol Flying Centre expects passenger numbers to rise 1,700%
I am assuming that this means BMIr have won the Airbus contract back?
Good news for BMIr and Bristol then.

Sounds a bit charterish and short season. Presumably fits with downtime or positioning for Airbus contract. Not exactly a groundbreaking core route but income Im sure none the less.

Fit like min?

Bastia is not a big market from Bristol. easyJet tried it for two summers in 2009 and 2010 and before that there were weekly summer charters to Bastia typically using ARJ-type aircraft.
The E145 might be the right size.

It's nice to see BMIr adding routes especially ex BRS.
I wonder if we might see them on the BRS-EDI route at some stage, certainly the BA regional services on the E-Jets between the two always seemed popular

BRS-EDI strikes me as a fast way to lose large amounts of money up against a good business-friendly easyjet schedule and product. What do you see as the gap that bmir could fill? What would they be offering to justify a substantial yield premium over easyJet?

BRS-EDI ? Nope cant see that unless it suits as a positioner. Cant see the other new launched routes lasting more than a year either. Dont think code share/interlining has been agreed, fares will likely be high and expensive fuel guzzling Embs. Mmm.

Sorry for my somewhat crazy suggestion !!
It's simply based on the BA regional model where BA operated at frequency BRS-EDI on the EMB and always seems popular in the mornings with business types, hot breakfast etc.
Obviously I have no idea on yields

The BA franchise did fly both BRS-EDI and BRS-GLA 5 x daily on the two routes for several years using E145s for much of the time against easyJet's 3 x daily to both Scottish cities.
It all ended in 2007 when Flybe bought BAConnect and closed the 5-aircraft (all E145) BRS-base.
BACon were also flying daily to FRA, MUC, DUS, ZRH, MXP and CDG (the latter 5 x daily but no easyJet on that route then), with FRA the longest served route at nearly ten years of operation.
Summer 13 timetable shows easyJet at 4 x daily some days on both EDI and GLA so, as others have pointed out, that looks a non-starter for bmi regional though there are several hours from mid morning till early afternoon with no coverage at present.
It looks as though regional might be looking at replicating some of the BACon European network.
I take CabinCrewe's point about fuel consumption - it's a far bigger cost item now than it was in BACon/BACx's time from BRS - and as yet no interlining/code sharing has been announced so far I know.
However, I am not as pessimistic about the initiative as CabinCrewe appears to be.
BRS is the sort of airport that bmi regional would hope to make a mark at with no competition on key routes such as FRA. If it can't make a fist of things at BRS where will it go? To larger airports with more competition?

I for one would like to see BMI Regional fill in the gaps left by Flybe withdrawing from Southampton to Brussels and Frankfurt and perhaps opening new routes to Zurich and possibly Milan/Munich.
I know Eastern replaced Flybe on the Brussels route and has since dropped the route but with a good schedule I am sure it would work perhaps with a SN codeshare as with a LH codeshare to Frankfurt.
I work for the cruise industry based in Southampton and the amount of German passengers joining the Cunard vessels has risen year by year with an average of at least 300 travelling on any particular cruise and sometimes 500+ on the Queen Mary 2 and with the majority of these passengers are origionating from Hamburg and Dusseldorf so maybe a seasonal Hamburg route could work!
Alot of these German passengers actually arrive by coach would you believe on along journey from Germany via the Dover-Calais ferry or use Lufthansa with coach transfers to Southampton docks so a market is there.
We need some competition here at Southampton and a new airline in the market serving destinations not currently flown from the airport and with BMI regional it would give them a southern airport serving a very wide catchment area and would fit in nicely with there route network.

Canberra97, interesting post and good to see some positive thinking. I'm sure that's an example of the type of market the returning owners would like to see : discening customers who look for a bit more after sales service/flexibility than the low cost options can or are willing to provide. That's an area where the company is, I believe, aiming to differentiate itself from EZY etc.
The backers for bmir will want a return on their investment too so I'd be suprised if significant efforts are not being made to ensure that happens.

BMI Regional will be the next Duo, just a decade later.
No Alliance ties, no-one has really heard of them, not much marketing and the wrong aircraft.
I give them 12 months max unfortunately.

bmiR has somethings that Duo didn't - A selection of valuable corporate contracts with the likes of Bae and Shell an active corporate charter department.
They are looking at interlining - almost certainly with *A and i can see them becoming an affiliate.
In fact almost all of the international routes have corporate contracts - Assured revenue streams.
I think they have a foundation for a solid business model.
