It was my understanding that Diamond Club ceases to exist completely after that date, as all mainline DC members have now been absorbed into Avios/BAEC. This leaves bmiR with no FFP.

It is my understanding that Diamond Club in name will continue, it is though BAEC from a back office perspective. The current bmi IT support for DC will be switched off on the 30th.
Things like Diamond Club Lifetime Gold members will be invited to join the Executive Club Gold tier for one year to be consistent with BAEC. Many of the priveledges of DC are only valid on BD flight numbers.
As BD flight numbers become fewer and fewer, Diamond Club will quietly die and DC members will be assimilated into BAEC. As this is the bmi Regional thread, the main point is that bmiR has no FFP as of 30/9/12

Would be interesting to know what the status is of the Airbus contract. Are there many ex-baby people joining the company ?
The change in code is because the deal worked out with Lufthansa/IAG let us use the BD code until the end of September. IAG will still be using BD flight numbers until the end of the year I think.

BCalBoy - what can bmir do on a route like Gatwick-Aberdeen that Flybe cannot ? Would bmir have any particular advantages allowing them to make money where Flybe found things difficult ?
In addition, how might bmir respond to 13x weekly competition from Easyjet on the Gatwick-Aberdeen route ?

The new charges at LGW make smaller aircraf much less competitive alas. The question is could BMR do with an ERJ145/135 where flybe failed wih the larger ERJ170/195? Depends on how many would happily pay more to avoid EZY.

The last thing LGW want, or would incentivise, would be 50 seater aircraft occupying prime runway slots. The cost per seat of operating small aircraft at Gatwick in the summer is a challenge and likely to become more so unless the CAA do something about it.

ABZ - London...?
I think I recall bmiR saying they would want to retain a London link from ABZ .
LGW? No chance, for the same reasons as LHR don't want small aircraft clogging up slots.
If they were considering LCY, they can forget that with BA Cityflyer about to start that route.
I could see STN, a link that Air UK used to do & hasn't been served out of ABZ for 10+yrs, as a possibility. I remember it seemed to be well supported. Whether it would be again 10 yrs on...

Take a look at the tails of air craft at EDI and LGW. It is all BA and EZY. There is virtually no competition on London-Scotland routes anymore. Capacity is shrinking and my own personal experience is that prices are increasing.
I suspect there was more choice and more competition on these routes when BA was a nationalised carrier...I can think of at least 5 operators that ran the trunk routes in the mid-80's
bmiR dont have the right equipment to take on either EZY or BA, even FlyBE would be a little beyond the 145's. Unless there are plans to get bigger aircraft, bmiR will be toe to toe with Eastern.
