So are DND, EXT, IOM, JER (with no flights bookable when you try them) - not sure if this can be taken as an indicator.

I very much doubt that KLM would fly to BFS. For a legacy carrier such a KLM rock bottom fees is not always top of the list. Even if BFS were cheaper I'm sure BHD wouldn't be far off the mark.
It's all to do with airport experience awell. BHD as we know has most the boxes ticked nice modern airport, good location, good business lounges etc and not the big orange giant
And I'm pretty sure hour restrictions won't affect them

Saw a Brussels Airlines Dash 8 on stand today at around 11.30am. Optimists would say a new route to Belgium () but more likely an operational oddity given the Flybe wetlease in BHX and such like. Anybody have any further info?

KLM

So looks like KLM are coming to town. If they are to make a real go of AMS then 2 daily F50 or E jets. Now it may be just me but I don't think they will last long before they exit BHD. Anyone else agree?

KLM should look at past history on the AMS route
EI started with a double daily and it's code share with KLM, soon became once daily.......and then stopped!
Next WW with its six weekly flights, soon became four!

Jamie2k9;

I usually tend to agree with your analysis but on this occasion I differ. If KLM can do night stop and therefor offering a business solution for the Belfast Based Traveller with an early take off from Belfast and return say in the evening say to arrive about 730 that would work, putting say F28 on the route would address the capacity need.

Also the flight in on Friday night could go straight back to AMS and offer an evening flight to the leisure weekend traveller, no service on Saturday and 2 on Sunday evening one night stop for Monday early departure and the other to addres the weekend leisure traveller. These options ie early out late back business orientated schedule would satisfy the connectivity at the hub at AMS.

This would be my vision of the most effective solution for all parties concerned. Hence my contention that KLM are best placed airline to serve the route.

The Aer Lingus BFS-AMS didn't have a KLM code share, this was one of the reasons it didn't last long. It probably would have been successful if the code share was in place but a KL policy regarding codeshares meant it wasn't possible.

F-50

Jamie2K9

I think your find there are no Fokker 50s in active service with KLM anymore as all have been retired.

When you refer to the F-28 I take it you mean the F-70!

Your flight strategy has much logic for the business and leisure pax. As with the introduction of WW to BHD, EZY up their frequency to cover WW early Monday morning flight and also two on Fri and Sun. If KLM does consider entering the market then they will be up against a big competitor. In reality AMS is a daily service from NI max. I would rather new new routes being developed

I personally can`t see KLM rocking the boat too much. Having said that, competition is good, I know when Baby introduced the route Easy dropped their prices considerably and I was able to travel at much less cost than previous.

Do City have space for yet another night stopping aircraft? I havn`t been talking to my source at city recently, not sure how the plans for their new stands are progressing.

PS Lets hope the humour police leave this post alone, I note several others of mine have disappeared allegedly after some smart ar*e from the east complained.

I think the biggest advantage of KLM entering the Belfast market, is the ability to connect to a range of long-haul routes easily at AMS. NI as a whole is very limited with full service carriers. Connecting to long haul really only being through LHR and EWR. BE I guess have a limited service to connect onwards at MAN and BHX.

Opening up KLM's route network from NI would be a huge advantage, and could see LHR numbers affected moreso than EZY AMS. I think back in the early days of EZY AMS, the flight was operated morning and evening for many seasons, I think up until CDG was launched, however could be mistaken.

Canberra97, precisely!!!

Shamrock 350, I am not convinced that this is entirely true, at the same time while BFS AMS with EI operated their flights on BFS LHR and had oodles of capacity with opportunity to connect in LHR yet still lots of seats empty on BFS LHR. This is even true up to when BFS LHR moved to BHD, all the while code share in place with BA.

The 320 was too big for the size of the market, good for business traveller and coupled with fact that (1) took a while to get established, (2) route operated in one of the most challenging winters in some years as far as air travel is concerned.

I agree with comments that EZY will rattle up the competition and make it tough, but the combination off all the variables that I mention will allow this to work on loads that would not have been workable on a 733 of WW;
- A nightstop early departure late back
- Smaller aircraft
- Business traveller and Leisure traveller friendly
- Connectivity
- Attractive to the market that would find BHD more convenient.

This evenings LHR-LBA-LHR SHT1344/1345 service has a big delay for some reason, So when the northbound SHT1344 eventually gets to LBA tonight the aircraft and crew will be night stopping.

So this evenings SHT1421 service from BHD to LHR operated by A319, G-DBCG has called into LBA to pick up the stranded SHT1345 LBA-LHR pax instead.
