This might be one of the reasons they won the above award

Stag parties thrown off plane at Manchester Airport for 'disruptive behaviour'

Although their firm action is very welcome (I`m travelling with them next week) it does raise questions as to how these buffoons got past the gate staff. No doubt too frightened to challenge them. Thankfully the cabin staff had no such qualms, aircraft returned to stand, to$$ers off loaded, end of stag do`s x 2 apparantly

It occurs to me that until these people have got on to the plane, they aren't committing an offence of endangering the a/c, for which the penalties are substantial. Until then it's breach of the peace, or drunk and disorderly. I would expect that the crew had been forewarned; the groups had basically been given enough rope to hang themselves, which they duly did.

To their great credit, Jet2 really do appear to have a no-tolerance toward these sorts of drunken, selfish idiots.

Forget the 22kg baggage allowance, this is one very good reason for flying with them.

Very damaging tail-scrape with a B757 at ALC this week, during landing.

Would that be G-LSAI? Flew down from Leeds on the 10th and hasn't been seen since.

Tail scrapes on a high mounted 757 are very unusual...

Quite right, If it's 2 different parties then perhaps it wasn't a problem until they boarded. With alcohol involved then a group who is 'merry' at the gate could quite quickly become aggressive if challenged by another alcohol fuelled passenger once boarded.

I've seen a similar thing myself, on another airline, years ago when I used to be a gate agent for a handling agent. I think it was a flight to Mallorca. A stag do came to the gate, around 15 of them in the group. All of them had drank a fair bit, but the vast majority of them were fine, if not just a bit loud. The rep and cabin supervisor came to the gate and spoke to them, they agreed to quieten down, agreed no booze would be served to them and they boarded. That is apart from one guy who refused to accept he wouldn't be given booze onboard and lashed out half way down the jetty at a dispatcher and my (female) colleague. The other lads tried to calm him down, he didn't, in the end the flight left with the entourage onboard and the groom to be being taken away in handcuffs!

And of course the airlines (and the airports) are quick to say that "the safety of our passengers is our first priority" - if that was true, all airports and aircraft would be alcohol free zones.

Why?? why make airports and aircraft alcohol free zones. Most people enjoy a drink or 2 with no problem or threat to safety at all so why punish them. If people appear drunk at the gate just offload them and everyone would soon get the message. I'm fed up with punish them all for a few pricks attitude.

Who said anything about punishing anybody?

Merely pointing out the hypocrisy of Jet2 (and other airlines) who are quite happy to take the praise - "no-tolerance toward these sorts of drunken, selfish idiots" - when they contribute to creating the problem.

The amount they drink on the plane will be as nothing compared to the amount they had drunk before they arrived at the airport or drank while there. But of course the fees that the airlines are charged are subsidised by the airport's income from the retail concessions.

or more likely the airports have to maximise their revenue from bars etc because of the downward pressure on fees from airlines.

I have no problem with that, but there are more, larger one's now. My point is that no matter how slight the risk, it compromises safety and the airlines must be aware of this but still trot out the safety is our first priority line when it suits them.

One of these days there'll be an incident and half the pax will be too p*ssed to get off safely

SWBKCB...

...this was a return to stand. Therefore no alcohol had been served on the flight. This was all down to "pre-loading" at home, on the bus on the way to the airport, and at the airport.

There's no hypocrisy involved here - on the average flight Jet2.com operate a 2 drinks per person policy, and that is invariably 330ml cans of beer, 175ml bottles of wine, etc. They have drunk way, way more than that before they get near the aircraft.

One of these days there'll be an incident and half the pax will be too p*ssed to get off safely
This is true, but it will be down to the drinking before and at the airport, not on the aircraft. We just deal with the mess created by others.

At least get your facts right before spouting off.

I wonder which city in Europe has the most un pleasant prison's if one found it necessary to divert and off load an unruly passenger whilst en-route? Tirana perhaps, though I always thought Bucharest and Sofia might be quite rough.

Unfortunately we live in a country in which getting so drunk/high that you can not control your anger seems to be the norm for a growing number of our population.

I am always amazed how many people are in the bar at half past five in the morning at the airport, I can not think of many other things that I find so un-appealling as an alcoholic drink at that time of the day.
