Well you better tell Jet2 that!
Now if you check the Jet2 website you'll see that the some of the Boeing 737-800 flights from LBA have been loaded into the system and are now on sale for next summer on routes to ALC, AGP, DLM, HER, MAH and LPA to name but a few.
Air Europa, Ryanair & Thomson have all operated Boeing 737-800's out of LBA without major problems as well.

Mr Boeing reckons that a 737-800 with a landing mass of 60 tonnes will stop in 5000' on a wet runway (autobrake 3). This assumes touching down at the touchdown point (on the sloping away runway32 at LBA?) I seem to recall LBA being about 7300 feet long. So when you add safety factors in for dispatch, it is getting limiting to LAND a heavy aircraft on a wet runway.
I have been told that other operators either have the short-field landing kit or fly 'less than full'...neither of which I can verify.

The short field pack would be ideal for LBA, however, it was only an option from about 2005 so probably too shiny for Jet2. It reduces vRef and consequently landing distance, energy related to the square of the speed and all that. The other option is carbon brakes which makes a difference. The standard -800 has similar brakes to the -300 and is significantly heavier with much higher approach speed. As has been previously stated the issues really only relate to landing at Leeds on a wet runway, dry is generally ok unless the crosswinds are up and the aircraft has winglets. I'm not sure if any of FR's aircraft have the SFP.

BLK has a main runway of 1869m - Which falls short of the 7300 feet long that LBA has.
I am sure that when FR was at BLK, they managed with a full, or nearly full 737-800 and I think it was a winter destination also.
I may get corrected on this, but almost sure the a/c was full, or getting there.

They started at Leeds and have gone Scotland and now as far South as East Midlands ...I expect as more a/c are available, Jet2 will creep down South.
