Guys, isn't it time Jet2 upgrade all of their aircraft?

The aircraft with the decompression the other day from IBZ-LBA, a 734, was 30.9 years old!

Jet2 have had quite a few incidents lately. If they keep this up, the Swiss cheese will eventually align! Time for an upgrade me thinks.

Isnt the idea of the new 738s to phase these 733s out sooner rather than later ?

Now they are moving from a mainly summer-only business to an AYR one, the business case for newer frames becomes much stronger.

By this winter most of the 300s will have gone as there are still a lot of 738 to be delivered
Takes a while as pilots need to be retrained along with ground crews etc

They are, they received new 737 8s during the winter and still have 15 to be delivered the winter coming up with 4 more after August 2018 and they might buy or lease some more second hand ones. Hopefully they'll have enough left over to keep on expanding and adding new bases.

Are you sure? They announced one extra 738 for EDI next year, which would suggest that 3 of the six based a/c would still be 300s.

chaps1954 - Some, not most of the 300s will go. Retraining doesn't take long, it's a simple differences course.

The oldest of the B737-300 are just under 31 years old, however some of the B757s are only a year younger.
You need to realise that some of the worlds B737-300 are in fact younger than some of the B737-800 Jet2 operate.
Providing the aircraft are maintained correctly as Jet2 do so, airframe age is irrelevant, the issue is more down to components that fail more with age, which is most likely what happened on the incident recently.

At least 14 new 738 due by spring next year, I know there are more aircraft due for BHX,
MAN and probably others which will be 738 but would expect 8 to probably go
G-CELA has just been retired with probably the other G-CEL* range going next as there
is quite a gap to the G-GDF* in general ( not all) of about 6 to 8 years with the oldest
738 delivered late 98

Are you sure about thst? Surely the new registrations will follow on from G-DRTA and G-DRTB.

My guess is that G-CELH/I & V will stay for a bit longer as these were fitted with Winglets a few years ago. That leaves 7 G-CEL* 733's so I assume it will be them to go, not 100% sure like.

Jethro has them stated as G-JZB*.

Maybe they have got the entire G-JZxx range giving 625 registrations including the existing G-JZHx range. They can't use G-JZAx, G-JZFx, G-JZLx or G-JZTx because they need to keep the last two letters unique (as the a/c are commonly referred to that way) and they clash with the existing registration ranges (G-LSAx, G-GDFx, G-CELx and G-DRTx).

Was looking at the CAAs G-INFO and noticed of the 16 new a/c currently received from Boeing, 6 are registered as owned by Dart Group PLC (HJ/L/N/O/R/S), 3 as owned by Dart Leasing and Finance LTD (HM/T/U), and the other 7 are registered as chartered by Jet2.com (HK/P/V/W/X/Y/Z)

Not Jessica Fletcher by any means, just wondering what the difference in ownership meant - or whether its just a case of balancing the books?

That is the big mistake British Midland made with the B734.

Owned by Dart Group = owned and on the balance sheet.
Owned by Dart Leasing & Finance = off the balance sheet (probably)
Chartered = owned by a third party and definitely off the balance sheet.
