Gate staff should prevent drunk pax boarding in the first place
they are also the carrier with a bigger problem than other budget airlines, not something to be shouting about.

I have long thought that the solution to alcohol on planes is for a limit, similar to the drink drive limit be introduced industry wide. Ideally this would probably need to be done at a government level, to enshrine it in law, the justification being for safety. All you then do is have random breath tests at the gate for anybody who they suspect is drunk, and if they are over the limit, they get offloaded. Alcohol sales on board should be limited to 1 drink per passenger on short haul/medium haul flights, with perhaps a higher limit on long haul provided a reasonable period of time has passed.

I'm fed up of people advocating more nanny stating and controlling because of a tiny, tiny minority who can't act in a responsible manner.
Like anything else it's always the majority that suffer for the minority. Hard justice is what's required here with longer jail terms, banning for life, stiff fines and costs to the carrier if a divert happens. Let's not get on the side of the offenders and find excuses for these characters.

Perhaps the solution is to close the airport bars before 9am..I really cannot imagine how anyone gets enjoyment at drinking alcohol at 5am, unless they have a habit to feed!!..This problem effects society these days and airlines are caught up in it, low costs seemingly more than scheduled, recently an Easyjet Captain got punched by one such moron, Ryanair have had a couple of `land aways`in the last few months and so it goes on.
Whilst I agree Jet2 are taking an admirable stance and one that will win them deservedly more business from the `silent majority`, the first line of defence has to be the gate staff. In reality the gate is more often than not staffed by agents, who are often female and or young people, not paid a huge amount, and the temptation to leave the obvious problem to someone else must be immense and I do have sympathy with them at a personal level.
The responsibility lies with the airlines, yes it will cost more money to staff up to the extent required..Is that ever going to happen??..yes and pigs might fly. Only legislation will make any step change but that would be painful and more expensive for everyone.

My experience with early flights is that most are just asleep,ditto the very late flights
The biggest problem I had was a flight out of Manchester that was delayed by 3+ hours and many of the pax were high on booze already.
Dealing with stag & hen parties can be a challenge, the hens are worse than than the stags at least in the air, you need experienced cabin crew who know how to handle these very different groups.

Jet2 gate staff do scrutinize the customers and will refuse travel or consult with cabin crew and flight deck.
Some customers just need a quiet word to make them calm down, others are just not prepared to behave or listen........

There was a rumour, a while ago, that Jet2 was looking to take over the Monarch hangar. I think there is confusion as currently I can only see Jet2 advertising for a line maintenance B1 engineer.
Maybe 1 and 1 has made 3 in somebody's books - or they may be right? Who knows.

Have just been taking a look at Jet 2's early plans for Summer 2017 (based on August when compared to August this year)
I know that it still early and there is still time for a number of changes, but based on what is currently available as per the online timetable there are planned to be 815 x weekly departures (up 96 x weekly when compared to August this year)
There will be 234 Airport pairs, compared to 203 this year. There are 37 new routes (with 15 of these coming from the new Birmingham Base) with 6 dropped routes for a total of 7 x weekly flights (the dropped routes appear to be Belfast to Murcia and Pisa, East Midlands to Bodrum, Edinburgh to Dalaman, Glasgow to Bodrum and Newcastle to Bodrum.
Overall weekly departures are ......
Manchester - 203 (-14)
Leeds - 159 (+18)
East Midlands - 102 (+16)
Newcastle - 96 (+2)
Glasgow - 81 (+2)
Edinburgh - 76 (+12)
Birmingham - 57 (NEW)
Belfast - 41 (+3)
All Airports see an increase apart from Manchester, although I assume the total number of seats through Manchester should be up as A330 operations are scheduled to commence to help compensate for the loss of 14 x weekly flights, with the additional number of services appearing to suggest extra based units at East Midlands, Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford

Reference Palma Base, it looks like Manchester gets an 0800 departure effective 28th April 2017, increasing up to 6 x weekly as we move through May, with Birmingham also getting 1 x weekly departure from the end of May. Presumably the aircraft will then operate a 2nd daily rotation sometime around 1500 local ?
