Seem like Jet2 is expanding its presence at Leeds Bradford Airport with signing another major property deal. The airline has agreed to lease a further 54,866sq ft unit inside the Leeds and Bradford Airport Industrial Estate (Old WW2 Yeadon Avro Factory)

http://www.insidermedia.com/insider/...dford-presence

So much for Jet2 buying property over in Manchester, Have they sorted a deal out to buy the Monarch Engineering Hangar yet?

New Baggage Service

Just noticed on their Facebook page, Jet2 have set up check in desks at their package hotels abroad, so you hand over your luggage, gets labelled and put onto a truck and off to the airport. Passengers get free time without bags and on arrival at the airport they go straight to security with just hand baggage..

Interesting, if it works, but will certainly be one up on their competitors and an incentive for the punters to book jollies with them..Forward thinking here..

Obviously not yet available at all hotels in all resorts but they have to start from somewhere..The set up of the logistics involved will be interesting.

It was trialled last year in a few hotels in Benidorm, it worked very well and was well received. This year the concept has been expanded to more hotels, and from a conversation I had with my barber who has been to Tenerife on many Jet2 holidays over the last few years he thought it was a fantastic addition.

Thomson used to offer this at certain Platinum range hotels (think last time was around 2005), and was such as fantastic end in not having to stand in an "all Thomson flights" queue at the overseas airport. Well done Jet2 for adopting!

Hand luggage is never weighed at the gate.

It won't, it will be just like booking a flight with no luggage nowadays, you just go through security, down to the gate and as long as your hand luggage is within the prescribed dimensions, on you get. (many with hand luggage that exceeds the max dimensions too unfortunately)

I was going to say, I remember the MyTravel group offering similar back in the day on some of their Airtours holidays. If both of these companies no longer offer it, could it really have been that popular or even cost effective?

Perhaps the only difference I suppose now, is that almost the entire flight will have checked-in online and have self-printed boarding cards. Maybe this will help with the procedure in some way?

I have to ask...as a tour operator/airline...why are you there? To investigate, bully and harass your customers or to sell seats on planes and transport your customers from A to B?

Given most of the pax now are families off on Jet2holidays packages, the aim is to make their experience as smooth and hassle-free as possible. Retention of passengers year on year depends on their experience as a whole, and not just loading them on and chucking them off at the other end. Pax travelling in the morning from Manchester this Summer can use the 'Twilight' service where they drop off their bags the afternoon before they fly. The target, as you can see in its advertising, is families - where because of kids, the last day is generally not worth counting as part of the holiday. In theory, you could have the kids' cases packed, checked-in, and rid of in the morning, while they're still in the hotel room, making travelling back home a whole lot less stressful

I'm assuming that most of the places that this is being offered are self-handling, so apart from moving some staff shift times around it doesn't matter where the bags are collected from a cost perspective.

what concerns me is the security of the cases once they have left hotel, could they be tampered with or could one even be swapped for one with a device inside,in this day and age this does concern me,

Non airport bag check in happens all over the world. Hong Kong, Vienna, Abu Dhabi, many German & Swiss rail stations, to name but a few. The same things happen with cruise ship luggage too.
Short of carrying your luggage yourself to the aircraft hold there are no guarantees either way, although you would expect them to be x-rayed and/or randomly searched too before loading, the same as when you check it in at the airport.

Now if Jet2 Holidays did full ski packages this would be a winner - no more lugging a case, skis and boots onto a bus and around small airports with few facilities.

SKG an odd choice. Will be interesting to see if that lasts the course. Almeria always a bit of a hit or a miss too.

Quite disappointed no Thessaloniki for NCL, would rather that than a 2nd airline to Almeria... Why do they all keep going for everyone else's turf!

Rather strange that Jet2 has decided against adding either of these new destinations from Glasgow. Are there any plans to further expand Glasgow's route offering by Jet2?
