Ryanair to help Chinese manufacturer
Just watching CNN and Bloomberg down route (as they're the only English speaking channels) and saw this.....
Ryanair in a joint venture with Chinese aircraft manufacturer, Comac. O'Leary said in the telephone interview that he hopes to help develop an aircraft that will "knock the socks off the Boeing and Airbus comparables". Comac expects the new bit of kit to be ready for flight testing in 2014 with a view to first deliveries in 2016.

What Ryanair needs is different sized aircrafts, the times of a one size fits all aircraft sustaining growth can not continue. They need smaller aircrafts to compete routes which BE and other comparable airlines operate and if they're ever to expand outside of the EU, they need larger aircraft.
This whole Comac "relationship" is all spin just to scare Boeing into giving them a better offer. I would suggest Ryanair argues that the 737 and A319/20 series are all ageing aircraft, but they're more than happy to buy the "clearance stock". Questioning their models competitiveness nowadays might scare them enough to giving a better offer to Ryanair. (Obviously the rest of us know that both models are modern, and very successful but do the public know this?)

I agree it might be spin but if any Airline will go ahead with an order it would be Ryanair we all know they dont like following the flock, Spin or no spin can B & A take the risk in a very slow market.
As for Ryanair moving from the one size fits all fleet I agree 100% but I hope they look at smaller and larger Aircraft, Europe is almost covered by low cost Airlines, It must be getting to the time where Ryanair look again at Mid to longhaul flights,"maybe under another name" using Ryanair as a feeder.
We are starting to see a move by National carriers in the East Starting up New Airlines based on a longhaul lowcost model and it wont be long until this trend hits Europe and the UK.
Ryanair are now doing very well in the Uk Holiday market and continue to move away from smaller out of town Airports but what next ?

I think we all suspect or can guess at what MOLs intent is.
However, its worth noting that COMAC would probably offer an extremely low unit cost (possibly a loss leader) if Ryanair were to place an order with them. Afterall, you could almost guaranteed that if Ryanair order 200 919s orders would come flooding in on the back of that vote of confidence.

I've absolutely no doubt that after the much knowledge, expertise and money invested in the C919, it will be a very sophisticated and economical aircraft. I'd very much like to fly on the aircraft too, would make a difference from the usual crowd.

I agree, it would be nice to see something on the ramps around europe other than the usual endless B737's and A320's. I just hope Ryanair's input to the project won't lead to a potentially brilliant and innovative new airframe being turned into a PR exercise with pay to pee toilets and standing spaces down the back.

Hmm, I should hate to see a lively market then. Let the good times role, baby! Given the speed at which A & B's order books are filling up, MOL may have no option but to order C919s.
