I do hope for your sake that this all comes to fruition as you definitely seemed a bit obsessed over the thought of Cobalt flying from Cardiff.
There are alternative airports that you can fly to Cyprus so don't I wouldn't hold back that that trip to Cyprus to see your family if I was you purely based on any emails from the Cobalt Support Team.
If and when Cobalt do decide to fly from Cardiff I hope your the first one to book a flight and make sure you reserve seat 1A.

Within EU (where we currently reside) we have open skies, so there is no licence as such for any city pairs. Slots, yes, but I doubt at CWL or LCA - there may be crewing or fleet issues. But licences, surely not.

Cobalt are probably fed up with the continous emails and the person who replied from the 'Customer Support Team' probably just fobbed it of with the ridiculous statement we see.

Will there be a SFB flight again this year? Remembering the flights back some years ago on a Thursday, they were always full/popular? The Travel City Direct were popular, same as the Monarch. Surely, Disney still entices...? Just wondering....

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any regular flights to Orlando for many years. They were always popular and I'm sure that the yield couldn't have been that bad.

There's also a Thomas Cook flight showing for 25th March, MT2836 CWL-MCO.
The long haul flights to Orlando were always full with BY, MON & Travel City/XLA. As were the flights to YYZ and also YVR was quite popular too.
Hopefully someone will see the potential soon

CWL to LHR service
Between June & September 1956, thrice-weekly by Heron, mostly dep CWL evening, dep LHR following am
During 1961/62 flown by DC-3 as one sector on a weekly or twice-weekly combined ORK-CWL-LHR service
Between November 1969 and February 1970, six times weekly by Viscount, dep CWL am, dep LHR evening
I see Flybe using the "LCY" Dash on a few other runs in recent days.
Tomorrow (Weds) looks like it goes to DUB after it's tea-time LCY run.
Both 195's are fully employed aswell, so this looks like a bit more expansion now that Summer routes have started.

Don't shoot the messenger, read the Qatar Airways post
The only suggestion that it may come to CWL is from a regular BRS enthusiastic poster who suggests that CWL may win this one based on APD or whatever, but with all due respect he's just an enthusiast and little more.

Qatar
Qatar Airways said to eye new flights to Gatwick, Ireland - Transport - ArabianBusiness.com
The report suggested that Qatar was 'looking at serving south west England' which doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as operating to/from a south west England airport.
In the spirit of facilitating some sort of debate I put forward (in the Qatar thread) the option of CWL with the possible APD devolution as bait, albeit the current Westminster administration has backed away from devolving the power to the Welsh Government. I also said that BRS would seem the obvious choice (if Qatar was to set up operations serving the South West) because of its catchment size and economic make-up of the region it serves.
I went no further than that, hoping that those with perhaps more knowledge of the subject than me would weigh in.

Looks like the responsibility of setting APD (in its entirety) will be devolved to the WG once Brexit has been completed. 'A Significant Amount' of powers are to be transferred back to devolved administrations post-brexit.
However, who's saying the UK may circumvent the EU Legislation regarding differential APD on Airport Size by then anyway.

Not that I ever lived/worked in Rhoose but rather than join the M4 at J33 if one takes the A48 and then the A48(M) thru Cardiff, because it knocks a few miles off the journey, before joining the M4 and then turning left up the A449 then A40 then M50 one can be halfway to a midlands international airport (BHX) before they've even crossed the Severn bridge (literally) and then they need to head due south before even arriving in south-west England!
Yes, serving 'south west England' definitely means Rhoose, are Qatar so stupid that they cannot spell "Wales"?
