Pax numbers increased in the two years after the name changed at MME before dropping, so just shows the names has little if any impact

Good to see ambition for the airport, but think Politicians may be trying to run before they can walk.
BBC News - Long-haul future for Cardiff Airport, says Carwyn Jones
Whilst it's true about the runway, and as discussed by many on here, there are more important factors to consider here.
As for the A380 comment is a full upgrade needed for the few potential diversions etc? - unless BA will use BAMC for their fleet,

If anyone wanted proof of the paucity of airline knowledge and experience at WG - this article provides it in spade loads.

Yes, it is truly great they have the ambitions for the place, but do they not understand that just because they wish it to happen, that is not enough? An airport with a market that cannot support a service to GLA, let alone DUS, is just the place for long haul wide body services clearly!! Just because the airport can handle a 747-400, or an A380, doesn't mean for a fraction of a second that any airline is going to start services with that equipment from there. Fairford, I believe, could have handled the space shuttle, but I never heard of one going in there...

I think I am right in saying that BA selected the Airbus maintenance programmes for their 380 fleet, so they won't be coming to CWL, except on rare diversions. Whilst they have proved the thing can taxi at CWL, I bet the terminal would have issues with that many people arriving at once....

With politicians like this, they may as well call the house builders in. Not a clue.

Well if that is the case isn't it about time there was an announcement or news that CWL have secured an airline to New York or the Middle East ??

This has been going on for years now, surely there would have been an interest from DL as there was previously or even QR, EK or EY to the Middle East.

I hope to God this does happen for the sake of CWL, it needs some good news !

Grrr

Cardiff needs passengers. If they don't turn up for the flights on offer it will be rather difficult to convince airlines to land.

Basically when the airport had that fude with Ryanair years ago they pushed them to Bristol. That was the death knell for CWL.

If that hadn't happened there is no reason why Ryanair couldn't have made CWL a 5, 6 or even 7 aircraft base by persuading people to travel in from a larger catchment area. Now they are at BRS its impossible but for a handful of services.

There are a few airports in the UK which only fit the Ryanair model.

CWL £3.5million

No doubt you lot will have a lot to say about this. And I guess so will the taxpayers of Wales...

BBC News - Cardiff Airport given £3.5m to attract new airlines

Wonder how long it will take FR to want in on this?

Doing away with APD would be more interesting for airlines when considering regional airports.

Loan

The future is in long haul flights, not competing with Bristol.

Where does this chap think that he is Shannon or Prestwick.

Basic routes to major hub airports at a reasonable frequency and price is needed.

Now the Government is coughing up this £££££, be interesting to see what airlines they do attract or tempt into CWL. All will be revealed I assume soon.

Can see on the Cityjet thread that they are replacing the based F50 with a Stobart Air ATR42 in WX colours as of next week.....any reasons as to why ? Where is the F50 off too ?

This is a rumour but this is a rumour site. From what I hear the F50 was leased from denim and that lease is up and replaced with the atr.

I'd say the reasoning being that VLM (Now a separate entity) want some of their F50's back for their own operations.

I handle city jets CWL services at work and all we've been told is to expect an ATR instead of the F50 from next week. Also confirmed on the Ch-Aviation site that Stobart Air has secured another customer.

With the split of Cityjet and VLM, the F50's are off no doubt back to VLM, nice to see the ATR42 in WX colours, let's hope it's more suited to the routes and possibly something else in 2015 ? Is JER back for 2015 ?
