Dominican Republic
With the recent events taking place in Haiti I wonder if this has had an effect on holiday bookings to the Dominican Republic for the summer 2010 period

No. why would it?
Haiti has no discernable tourist industry other than a couple of isolated and very well insulated resorts devoted to cruise ship passengers. Foreign office and state department advice has long been don't go unless you really must.
The Dom' Rep' whilst sharing the island of Hispaniola, a fact probably lost on most visitors from these shores, was largely unaffected by the recent natural disaster. Certainly the main tourists resorts around Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Samana and La Romana were completly unaffacted.
Even those Haitian "Resorts" such as Labadee are still welcoming cruise ship passengers to their insulated compounds just as they have for a number of years.
