I paid £16 for 14 hours parking at Newcastle last week, so Peel aren't too far wide of the mark

DTV Credibility

....Takes another knock. All departures delayed this morning..up to 5 hours for KLM to amsterdam due to de icing rig(1 !!) breaking down.

Its all very well everyone claiming DTV is on the up due to recent announcements, but I wonder what the airlines really think. The last couple of months must have cost KLM and Eastern an awful lot,not only in financial terms but also reputation??

Airlines are having a hard enough time, without the problems of mickey mouse airports such as this!!

I wonder if KLM are rethinking their winter operating policy through DTV-I know I would. It must also be giving Eastern management sleepness nights. If they go-what is left??

Parking. Pre book from home on line before you leave home or park up outside of the entrance and ring the pre booking line. You know it makes sense.
The delays this morning were caused by the de icing rig breaking down. Unfortunately these things happen and when you are struggling they assume massive importance.
Generally things are looking up but you must expect minor glitches.
P.S. If you use an airport parking site it is cheaper than booking direct with the airport. No I don't know why either.

Let's have some perspective here. Continental Airlines cancelled their entire schedule out of Newark yesterday because of the weather.

KLM aren't here because they feel obliged. They make money out of MME, so will stay regardless of the occasional hiccup.

New routes

Two new routes announced at NCL and HUY recently that I would have thought MME could sustain but obviously haven't been able to secure;

-London Oxford (J31 1 x daily start up operation from NCL)
-Belfast City (Dash 8 4 x weekly from HUY)

Also, how can HUY secure an AGP chartered by their travel company but MME can't do something similar?

HUY's AGP is not a charter. Flybe are setting up the route, Humberside Airport Travel is merely promoting the service.

If this airport's future depends on persuading people to fly from Middlesbrough to Oxford then we really are in fairyland.

I suspect the real test will be what happens to Cobham under the looming defence cuts. I don't know how they pay the airport but look at the number of movements each day - frequently more Cobham movements than all air transport movements put together. I guess they did a good deal with the airport otherwise I assume the MoD would have told them to base themselves on an RAF base to make it cheaper. But that must always be an option for them.

Cobham need to be able to come and go 24/7 with the necessary fire cover. Military airfields do not offer this service which is one of the reasons they are based at a civil airport.

The military don't want anymore civilians on their airfields than they absolutely have to and Cobham despite their training regime and ex military staff are still civilians. They also do practice escorts into landing and using a civilian airport with crossing traffic etc adds to the realism should the need arise for a full scale follow and escort or force down. MME is ideal because of the lack of scheduled traffic to cause delays and also the private traffic adding hazards to factor in.
When MME starts picking up again perhaps they will do the overshoots at somewhere like HUY. ( Just a little joke there. Don't bite. )

Well maybe when the alpha taxiway is shut on a NOTAM and you wonder why it's always nice to have an illustration and a bit of background info. Also it is a PILOTs forum not a toilet blockage forum !
Rob

PS: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and thats your opinion it shouldn't be on maybe others find it useful?

You tell him bobster. If he dosen't want to read this he can log off or go somewhere else. It is after all devoted to DTVA and this is something which happened there.

London route

Any latest on the london link which is what the airport are after? Would flybe try a gatwick link with a dash 8 or are they too committed to newcastle or even a cheeky ryanair base with 1 or 2?

Flybe have held talks with DTVA regarding a Gatwick, but it's a while since so I presume it came to nothing.

Eastern also need to do something with the Southampton aircraft - it spends too much time on the ground and that's why they axed both Bristol & Brussels.

William Hague was in the local paper last week after visiting DTV. He said something along the lines of us really needing a London link, but doesn't think building the extra runway at LHR is going to produce one. Something to one of the other airports would be better. And Labour saying there's no chance of a PSO on the route.
