I have a picture of the space reserved for the future station, but I think that it won't be into the NTA building. Probably we will see outside for trains (Cercanias) and we will use the Alicante intermodal station to take a TRAM to Benidorm, Altea, Calpe or Denia.

Being very optimistic in 2014. Probably in 2016, when the trains will flight...

Lots of talk of trains and trams to Alicante and Benidorm but at the moment it is not possible to get direct public transport to the airport from anywhere south of the airport eg Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa where so many expats live. There is a good bus service between Cartagenia and Alicante but it doesn't stop at the airport. There is no obvious reason why there should not be a service from Torrevieja to Alicante Airport. It would be well used but perhaps the bus companies are owned by taxi drivers.

@AP1995: Avianca has intention to do it with A332.

@Fly380: I agree. The public transport at Alicante airport is poor and principally with the south. I will try to put in contact with the bus company which connects Alicante - Cartagena to propose a stop at the airport.

TCX and TOM operate with 737, 757 and 767 family.
BER operates with 332 and 333 some routes during the summer like DUS specially.

The NTA incorporates some advantages, such as the ability to check the luggage over two hours in advance and not have to worry about your belongings during the day of departure (ideal for charter airlines). So you can spend your time like you want without the need to be 2 hours before your flight to check in your luggage (only 40 min for example to pass the control).
Look between the seconds 44 and 52. This is the luggage warehouse with more than two hours in advance. I apologize for being in Valenciano (like Catalan). If I can I put subtitles in English.

Thanks, GnRdL, for the photograph. I thought a rail station was already built underneath the new terminal. If this is not the case, I'd be amazed at the power of stories which circulate and assume the status "truth"!

I suppose a Cercanias operation makes sense as the existing Alicante-Elche/Elx line is quite close and the TRAM proposal never, as far as I am aware, got past the "study" phase.

I understand that Alacant Terminal station is to be completely rebuilt to accommodate AVE high speed trains but given the current (and future?) austerity one might wonder if any of this will now take place.

Public transport to/from the airport is much better than a few years ago. Buses to the city are now every 20 minutes (from one every 40 mins) and there are connections to Elche (a large city in its own right) whilst Alsa now provides services to points farther afield.

I recall arriving on a Monarch A300-600R many years ago (20?). The pilot proudly announced that it was the largest twin flying. How things have changed!

Are there any plans to build an airport hotel? There must be a market to serve the early morning departures.

There are Ibis, Etap and Holiday Inn Express hotels quite close but "off airport". I'm not aware of any plans.

There are not plans to build an airport hotel. There are some hotels close to the airport like Seat62K has said and others nearby such as the new Areca (Torrellano-Elche).

Respect the future train station at the airport, we will see it for Cercanias (trains). It's one of the projects rescued from economic crisis. It will be a new double railway between Alicante and Torrellano (with a stop at the airport), which will not pass through San Gabriel.

Regarding MON, sometimes you can see other models like the Airbus 300 and 330 on special dates. Respect the 757 are more easy to see it, but are not as common as 320 and 321.

I have sent an email this morning to Costa Azul. If I have news I will tell you.

Merry Christmas to all!

GnRdL, do you know how many a/c FR got at ALC this winter (and how many of them are used) and do you know how many a/c FR will need next summer?
I think it was something about 9 last summer but I don't think FR will need so many right now.

I'm also interested in these figures from the other Spanish bases of FR. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up by nearly 60 a/c based in Spain next summer.

Merry Christmas

W 2010:
5 a/c (all of them are used).
S 2011: 9 a/c with the current schedules (like last summer).

Merry Christmas!
